Hi,
I made a post about this saw earlier, and I got great advice. This time, I’m trying to install a new kill switch, at this saw didn’t have one when I bought it. I had nothing to go by, so I bought a pair off eBay. The listing said the switches would fit the 162, but I’ve run into a couple problems. There is only one wire in the saw and it seems to be too short to reach the posts on the switch. Not sure what to do now…
Anything helps!

Firstly, that switch looks to be upside down... you want it installed so it's natural & easy to flick it to off.
Looks like someone has taped up that wire at the coil... remove that tape & I'm guessing theres a joined up wire under there. You need to make that wire longer so may as well go from the join. You will need a second wire that goes from the switch to the metal of the case... one of the coil mounting screws generally works well

Also, that wire is routed incorrectly which is why it is short.

If it were me, I would use the switch designed for a 262 (503717901) that has just one wire tab and the other terminal is screwed to the crankcase. It means you will have to drill a small hole in the crankcase to mount it. On the plus side, the screw holds the switch in place. With the switch you have, you will have to create another wire to bring the second terminal to a crankcase ground point.

Thanks guys,
I’ll dig into the wiring tonight and see about making that wire longer. Beings that I already bought this switch, I’ll try to make it work.

The tape on the wire was indeed hiding a joint, so I made the wire a tad longer. I added a terminal to the other post and ground it out in a nice wedge at the carburetor. I tested it and works properly. I’ll put a dash of JB weld around the switch since it didn’t quite fit. That should do it.
Thanks folks!

The carb isn't always a reliable place to ground to as they can be isolated from the cylinder... in your case the bolts should go all the way through so it should be fine ;)

Wtf is that wire doing up there? 🤣

Same with other early 2 series Huskies.

My older 61 had the black kill switch. I installed 2 now of these and work great # 503717901 .

Just drill tiny hole for ground. 1 wire if I recall right too for switch.

If working with same deal. Works great.

Wedged in the carb for ground won`t last long, the wire should have a ring end attached and installed under a screw head., preferably not to the carb. Lazy fixes soon fail.

Agreed.
There are at least four switch options for this kind of era- the black one that earths through the retaining tabs, red one that does the same, red and yellow that have the tab with screw hole and case with corresponding screw hole in floor of air box and red one with two tabs for spade connectors and the permanent earth had the ring fitting on a short wire that screwed with a self tapper to the bottom of the air box.
None earthed on the carb. ;)

Yep, seen all of them and installed many before I learned. There was plenty of all sized Husqvarna`s came and went through here, preferably went not to be seen again.
