About a year and a half ago my Husky 350 started running really lean. I have always used good oil in it so I figured it might be ethanol that ruined the carburetor. I replaced the carb with a new OEM but the problem didn't go away. I dropped it off at the local dealer and he tested the compression which was 125psi. I ended up buying a new 545 to keep cutting and set the 350 aside until I had time to tinker with it. That time has now come. The saw no longer even starts, has great spark but doesn't seem to be getting fuel. If I add a little mix down the cylinder it will fire for a second but dies very quickly. Along with the carb I have replaced the baffle, fuel line, and fuel filter. Would the low compression cause the carb to not draw fuel or am I missing something else? I have pulled everything apart, cleaned it up and made sure evrything is tight. The 350 is a '01 saw that I bought new and would hate to just throw away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

125 is a bit low...150 would be more healthy. But if it does start with fuel down the air horn the issue lies elsewhere. Did you change over to the newer partition wall? How about a new fuel filter and line did you check the impulse line which can sometimes be plugged

I did replace both the fuel line and filter when I replaced the carb. I watched your video but didn't see whether or not the carb has a gasket on either side. I don't think it does but I want to make sure that I'm not just missing them. Thanks for the help.

Correction 125 is good for a 350. They run about 110 psi stock.

Gaskets are integral with the partition wall so no you're not missing gaskets if you haven't changed out the partition wall though you should do it an upgrade to the metal clamp if you want to check for an air leak around the current partition wall you can just spray some carb cleaner as the saw is running spray right near the partition wall and episode dies then you know you have the air leak did you try putting fuel mix in the air horn? Not drawing fuel can be as simple as having a hole in the impulse line

Lots of things to check

My 350 is an 06. I use it almost exclusively in the wood pile. Compression is 112 and it runs all day long. If you want to up the comp, buy a 353 piston and delete the base gasket, that should get you a few more psi.
Correction I see yours is an 01 there for the smaller 44mm 350. Disregard the modding info.

I've got a new piston and ring on their way and after your suggestions I'll order a new partition wall and replace the clamp with a metal one. Thanks again for the help!

MGoBlue -- I have checked the plug after 10-15 pulls and its bone dry. Now the only way I can get it to fire is to put a few drops of mix down the cylinder.

I would think that much compression would pump fuel. A new piston may not cure your issue. I'd address impulse circuit.

EDIT: a lil' slow eh!

And, if your piston is not in bad condition, a new ring would have probably sufficed.

I just went out in the garage and it fired agin with a few drops odd mix down the air boot. However it will not stay running even if I try to keep feathering the throttle. I had blown out the impulse line when I put everything back together but it might have a crack, I did not inspect it very well. I look pull that back off and see if I missed something.
