i have a question for you guys. can a demo/cutoff saw be converted back to a chainsaw? if so is there much involved? looks to me like just replacing the handle and putting a bar and chain on but i'm no expert, just found A GOOD DEAL ON ONE

Cut off saws live much shorter lives compared to chainsaws, They live in clouds of dust and EAT dirt. The very first thing to look at is the piston through both the intake and exhaust ports, look for ring erosion and other signs of dirt ingestion.

the cut off saw has a rev limiter and you have to put a oiler on it it would be cheaper to buy a new 372

Plus I think the clutch needs to be changed to a rim sprocket, and you also probably need a different clutch cover, and the oiler, oil tank opening, different handle, chainbrake assembly, and many other parts. the high performance air filter may be a plus though.

The best to do in my opinion is get a scored or bad 371/372 chainsaw, cheep and move the parts needed. If you have an mechanic doing the job, then forget it. I If you want to tinker a bit on spare time just for fun, then go for it.
The cut off saws, are not as attractive to collectors as chainsaws, but there is always interest if you can find it. This is if you can hang on to it for a while.

Cant answer for the Husky but on the old family of Sachs-Dolmar and Dolmar powercuts (309, 310, 343) you would have also had to replace the crankcase and the final machining step for the crankcase on the power cut was not finished and the oil feed line was not installed. So you would have to of replaced the crankcase as well.

Probably need to do that on the husky model too.
I'd just put a cutoff saw jug/piston from a 375K onto a 372XP chassis. its easier. and less time consuming.
