No, according to my Oregon catalog, that saw has a .325 chain on it.
What chain/bar is on it now?

I'm not sure. I'll have to look at the stampings on it when I get home tonight.

The current issue is that the chain will no longer seat in the sprocket at the tip of the bar.

All good info! Thank you.

Do you guys have some links to a good chain and bar combo for my Husky 40?

Are your sprocket .325 or 3/8 low-profile?

Anyway I think .325 narrow kerf will perform the best on that saw, like Oregon Microlite-Pro and 95VP chain......

Stamped on the bar is:

646 5089220-66 1.5mm/.058" .325"

The new chain I bought is a Y56, made by Power Care (Home Depot brand). The marking on the chain is R3.

The existing chain matches the new chain to a tee - however, neither will wrap around the sproket at the tip of the bar.

Given what I have, what replacement bar should I be after?

Thanks!!

Your Bar is .325" pitch and .058" gague The homodepo chain I suspect is a chinese copy of Oregons 91VG or 91VS with 56 driver for a length. The Chain you need for your bar is Oregon 21LP 66 driver or equal. I suspect the chain you are trying to use is 3/8lp which is the wrong pitch for your bar and drive sprockets.

Is it common for a sproket to wear out like that? I don't understand why the old one used to wrap around the tip, now it won't. It's puzzling.

Should I start the hunt for a new bar, or just pick up the suggested chain?

A 3/8"lp chain is a different pitch than the .325" pitch you have on your saw and bar. The 3/8" will not seat properly into a .325" sprocket.

Is this the chain you're suggesting?

To the best of my knowledge, I have a 16" bar, not an 18". :bang: lol

I NEVER SAID you had a 18" bar. DO YOU HAVE A LOCAL DEALER NEAR YOU???? Homo Depo does not have the chain you require. That link is quite a joke it does not mention the pitch or gague of the chain only 66 driver.
You need a .325" pitch .058" gague chain their are many many many choices out there and saw shop will have this in stock. Box stores will say "what is pitch and gague" they have no clue. all they can do is scan a SKU#
