I am helping out my uncle by cleaning up his Husky 440 that he picked up used. Its doesn't want to idle. I checked the plug and it is VERY black. L screw is at 2.25 turns out. Seemed really far out for me.

Does anyone know what stock carb settings would be for this saw? I know the old husky like 1-1.5 turns out but not sure on this newer saws?

Also on the IPL it says max power at 9,000 rpm's. Any idea what I should set the no load rpm's at?

Thanks

L is 2 1/2
H is 2

Max RPM 13,000

Ok so I am stumped. The carb is set....

L 2 1/4
H 1 1/4

Max rpm's is 11,200

So I called my local chainsaw shop and they said they would start tuning at 1 1/4 on L/H. Now they don't tune with a tachometer so I take there info with a grain of salt.

Anyone else have any info on these saws? I don't think I can get this saw to 13,000 rpm's. Do these saws have limit coils?

Hope some pro saw guys can jump on here and help me out.

Mine is set:
L 2 1/4
H 1 3/4

It's by no means a powerhouse at 40cc but with an 18" bar " mine " and a sharp chain, it throws some chips.

It's a homeowner saw but i have to admit.....i love the weight.

Run 93 Octane.

Ok so I am now 1 turn out on H and the saw runs better. Max rpm's is only at 12,000 now but it runs better. EGT are only 250-260* so I think I am still ok.

L is 1 3/4. I turned the L screw down until the saw was trying to die and then turned it out a 1/4 turn out. Seems about right. Saw seems to want more fuel on the low circuit.

Oh and I did a muffler mod...lol
