Can anyone tell what any difference would be? Couldn't find any different IPL or manual for it. Here's a shot of the serial plate. Thinking 2002. Working on scrounging parts and want to make sure the motors are same.

Kind of what I thought man. Same IPL I found and no mention of a special. Figured it was some silly difference that doesn't matter like different chain or something.

Most likely - this has been up before, without any good answers.....

1992 week 23 - the numbering system was different by 2002.

Only a difference of a measly 10 years. LOL. Thanks ST for the insight. Seems fairly well designed for a saw of that age At least in my limited experience point of view.

Didn't see any answers when I searched on it. Usually something will pop up. Not this time.

The basic design is another decade older, Partner P400. :msp_wink:

So the 45 Special and its Jonsered stablemate are the same as a Partner 400?

I guess what I'm asking is if these saws are any good, or is it better to pass it by if I come across one.

Not sure but I can say that parts ESP piston/cylinder are expensive and hard to find used. New is worth way more than the saw is worth. I find the intake setup leading to the cylinder seems convoluted and poorly engineered to me. I would pass on the next one unless it was free.

They look kinda cool though !!
I have to agree. They do look kind of cool. A little old school. Tip on these is to glue the intake and cylinder together with a thin film of Anerobic sealer. Not doing so costed me a ring and still have to check the cylinder/piston. May end up parted out if its not cleanable.
