Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you guys know how to route a throttle cable on a Husqvarna 45. I got the saw for free and had to put a new piston in it. I guess I should of paid more attention when I pulled it a part, but who would think it would be so hard. The issue I'm having is that there is way to much slack in it when I route it the logical way (like it will not even open the butterfly). The only service manual I can find for it cover's about 10 saws and doesn't go into detail on that. I fought with that darn thing so much I broke the barell off the end of the cable and had to order a new one.

I have one that was given to me and I had to put a new piston in it also. The cable route is very frustrating and I couldn`t come close to explaining its route around the carb.

I don't know if the IPL would be useful, the site below shows four IPLs for the 40/45.

Thanks for the link, I dont know If it will help with this issue but it is still nice to have. by the way what part of Texas are you from. I spent some time down in Austin and San Antonio earler this year for work.

Is it possible for you to take a picture from the side and top of it. I would be such a great help.

Thanks Craig

I would have to dismantle it again, the cable comes in from the trigger up under the carb where there is a slot like holder that the end of the cable sheath slides up into, the cable itself with the stud on the end continues on up to the carb side lever, what a POS setup all of those cable actuated Huskies are.

I'm with Jerry... I've done it but explaining it is a whole 'nother deal. It took several tries to get it right and I remember wondering what the DEVIL they were thinking. Swedes must have three very small hands each.

I'm in Houston. There are two areas in Texas where I'd rather live, the Hill Country, and the Big Thicket.

Bookmark the quoted link, if you don't have other access to Husky IPLs!

That site is definately worth bookmarking/saving as a favorite :msp_thumbup:. It has downloadable documents for a wide variety makes & models, not just Husqvarna, and not just chainsaws. Go to the bottom of the page and click on Small Engine Parts, & spend some time checking the available documents :msp_thumbsup:.

I know this post is 10 years old but does anybody have the routing of the throttle cable. Like a picture, im about to lose my mind!!! Thanks

It's over 30 years since I've seen a 40/45 but in production we'd route the cables from the trigger and through the handle before attaching the handle to the case and before fitting the carb mount/wall. Then it was easy to screw down the carb mount over the end of the outer throttle cable, having already attached the cable end to the carb .

Cool i know that part but where does it hook up on the carb? In the j slot or the little hole on top?

I know this is an old thread, but I'm putting the answer here for posterity....lol

On my 1980 something 45, the impulse nipple disintegrated, so the saw was "racing"(That damned E 10 petrol).
While disassembling the carb and partition plate, the throttle cable snapped, so I had to install a new one.

You must feed the bare wire part of the cable, through a slot in a recess on the RHS of the air filter attachment plate, catching the black outer sheath in the recess.
Then you must feed the bare cable through the carburettor body, to the rear of the lower idle screw. Hook the brass "S" shaped hook into the throttle control, into the Z shaped slot, from the REAR (If you attach it from the front, the brass thingy-ma-bob will catch the carburettor body and prevent it from fully opening)

Assemble the carb and air filter plate to the manifold plate, making sure the cable is attached as described above.

Now I suggest checking that the cable actuates the throttle fully before assembling the handle and trigger.

It has taken me half a day and numerous attempts to arrive at this solution so I hope it is helpful to someone else in the future (all the YouTube videos were useless).
