Hello everyone, I'm brand spanking new to chainsaws and just got an old husqvarna 55 rancher. It doesn't run and i figured it may just need a new carb, tune or tube up.
I found some videos online on how to replace carb and tune it, but my carb looks spent from the others. It has plastic pieces attached to H and L screws so I can only turn each 1/4 turn. Can't bottom out and turn back 1 1/2 like videos suggest.
Is this the right carb for this chainsaw?
Any idea on how to approach this to tune?
Appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

Those plastic things are called limiter caps & need to be removed to tune the saw properly or remove the H/L screws for cleaning. Should be plenty of videos on YouTube to give you some direction... just be careful not to bend the screws.
If the saw has been sitting with old fuel in it the carb will probably need a good clean out & possibly a kit. Avoid using compressed air as it can dammage the nozzle check valve

I ended up replacing the carb, fuel line, fuel filter, spark plug, plastic intake and air filter. Drained the old fuel and fuel and added fresh fuel. She started up after a few pulls.
Not sure if she sounds good or not. I turned the L screw on carb all the way till it bottomed out, then backed off 1 1/2 turns. Same thing with the H screw but back out 2 full turns. Didn't touch the idle.
Does it sound OK or anything else I need to do?

Idle sounds a little high - hard to tell what the high end is like from a short run like that…

Probably best to either do a bit of research on tuning, find someone that knows how to tune it... or buy a tach... it would be a shame to burn up a good saw after getting it sorted.
I'd also hold onto your old carb so you can rebuild it at a later date if you choose to... especially if the replacement wasn't OEM
