Husqvarna combi can - fuel spout

Hello,
About a year ago I bought a Husqvarna combi can 5+2.5L. Last summer it worked great and was really satisfied with it. This year, after some 5 months of not using it, the fuel spout gets stuck in open state after filling.
I've seen this issue discussed often (I know, it's shite and should have bought Stihl) but have not seen anyone post any solutions (that is, if it can be solved). I found a guy on youtube sanding down the seal but that seems like a slippery slope as it's supposed to, you know, seal?
Tried lubing the mechanism with two stroke oil but that did not help. Then again, even if it would have helped, it would dissolve in gasoline quickly.

Thank you for suggesting it, no doubt it would be around for much longer than me or my saw for that matter. And I do enjoy heritage for some things, but then again I do like new designs and functionality also (I own quite a few Fiskars axes if that says anything). But I got the combi can for convenience. and I like it except the spout issue of course. That's why I'm looking for a way to fix it rather than replace.
Fuel, oil, files, guides, wrench, stump wise, marker, earplugs and gloves all in one place, all taking one hand to carry. I sound like a sales representative, don't I?!

It's a sales gimmick in my opinion to put all of that in a gas can but hey it's OK, just not for me.


By the way if I remember right, these Wavian brand cans are made close to your neighborhood.

I might not fully understand the word 'gimmick' but does that not imply something being purely cosmetic and with poor functionality? In which case, the Husqvarna can is all but that - it really reliably holds everything in place and is really convenient. But I'm not trying to convince you otherwise, just sharing my honest opinion.
And you do remember correct, these are made in UK, fairly close to where I live (relatively) and shipping could be cheap, will have to check that can for trimmer and mower where no other tools are required, but for hiking with the chainsaw out in the woods, can't beat the carrying capacity of this combi can. Bought it for a reason and looking forward to solving this issue. Otherwise, will just buy a new spout. Some 12eur per year is not all that expensive, if failure rate is consistent.

Don't know how long you've had it and it's not ideal but I think you can buy separate spouts .... I think you can also buy the Stihl one's (don't know if they're better quality) as I don't think they come included with the Stihl can but are an accessory and guess they'd fit the Husky as well.

Bought it about a year ago and lost the receipt, if that's what you are aiming at. And you can get the replacement spouts. The more I read whatever limited info there is about it, the more I think that is what I'll do. About the Stihl spouts, - I saw somewhere that this does not work. Threads are different if I recall correctly , but someone had this idea already. Shame, as they are seem to have no such issues and would be a great replacement.

"Gimmicks are occasionally viewed negatively, but some seemingly trivial gimmicks of the past have evolved into useful, permanent features. "

Maybe OK for weekend warriors or city folks however, I doubt you will ever see many professional loggers carrying one of those!

I gather this is the new Kombi can with the poxy long black filler caps not the very good old ones with the green filler caps I have been using these for 8-years never had a second of trouble with them

i havent checked mine but if the oil spout fits the gas side that might be the ticket,,, fyi i love the husqy combi can...holds enough fuel/oil/wedges/files for a whole day of cutting

Maybe OK for weekend warriors or city folks however, I doubt you will ever see many professional loggers carrying one of those!

Understand. Agree with you on this 100%! I am however very much a weekend warrior from a city and only occasionally go to country side, but should any of the compartments fail on me, when I'm away in the woods, the cans still work. So it failing is an inconvenience rather than catastrophic mishap.

Yea, failed to mention that - I do have indeed the blackish and gray spouts, the new kind. Now that you say it, will have to investigate if the green ones don't fit on my can.

I have seen someone mentioning this in the forums, and it supposedly fits but it seems that they both fail when used for gas container. Now that I have thought about it, I guess I have ruined it my self by leaving some gas in the can over the winter. Granted, the fuel can should not fail when storing fuel in it, but could be that the rubber seals suffer from pump fuel.

The oil spout will stop filling when the oil tank is full providing you put the spout all the way into the saw tank as you would with the gas

Your file and plug key fit in a gap between the tanks,works well the tools do not fall out

I agree , mine are more than 30 years old and still work perfectly
