Well, I start this Thread, cos some thing from one of the other thread makes me wonder, and I did get some answers there. But I wonder a bit about the difference in Muffler Type from Husqvarna and Jonsered. The same saw can have some different muffler, and I know that they altered the spec from time to time, and year to year. We all know about the E-Tech/Cat mufflers from Husky and Jred, but this are about the other type of mufflers that they use on their saws.

What puzzle’s me is that the older Husky-353 have the empty Tube type muffler, and my new Jred-2152 have the empty Top Port type muffler # 503 86 28-03 T (outlet underneath the brake handle), and it look like the new Husky-353 have that also.
In the IPL there are 3 muffler’s, # 537 07 54-02 E-Tech/Cat (Top Port type), # 503 86 28-03 DF (Top Port type), and # 503 86 27-03 EU (Tube type). So why are the new 353/2152 whit the empty Top Port type muffler, when the Tube type still are here? Or have they put in a baffler-plate in the middle of newer Tube type muffler, like the ones on 2159 and 2171?

My new Jred-2159 has the Standard Tube type # 503 91 76-02 G that has one baffler-plate in the middle (had it off and checked it out), and it look like the new Husky-359 has that one to. Is one of the Top Port type mufflers for this saw’s empty?

On my new Jred-2171 there is a Tube type muffler. I have had it off and checked it out, and it has one baffler-plate in the middle, whit one big hole down under the outlet tube (like the Jred-2159 Standard Tube type). This muffler has the # 503 76 53-01 K and 6E. The # 503 76 53-01 tell's that this is one Standard Tube type, but what is the # like the K and 6E all about?

And has the # 503 76 53-02 Jungle Tube type for 2171/372xp no baffler-plate? Are this muffler empty inside?

And what Standard muffler have you over there for the 2171/372xp? Or are there differences in where you are or where you get you’re saws (not thinking of the E-Tech/Cat)?

Maybe this can be like :taped: for some of you, but this puzzle’s me, and makes me wonder if it is worth considered to get another muffler that is empty inside, whatever that is Tube or Top Port?

Well MAG; I drove myself nuts with all of these mufflers a couple of months ago. Even though all of the different mufflers are listed in the IPL, they can't all be ordered here. All of our saws come with the top port muffler, whether it is a standard or E-tech. I have seen the listing for the "jungle" muffler, but I have no idea what makes it different from the others.

The tube type mufflers have an "EU" designation in the IPL which I assume stands for either "Europe" or "European Union". I did manage to order and recieve a tube type for a 346/353. I had intended to mess around with it a bit, but a customer needed a muffler and wound up with that one, and that was it for the experiment! I tried to get one for my 2156, but the part is NLA from both Husky and Jonsered.

The only mufflers with extra baffles that we see are the E-techs. The others are all the empty ones you mentioned.

So why are they different? My only guess is that there is no easy way to put a spark screen on the tube type muffler, so that's why we have the top port with the spark screen in it.

Since you actually have both of them, could you fill us in as to any differences you noticed with regard to sound or power?

Muffler Type?

Hey spike60, I got 4 Jonsered, its 2135T, 2152, 2159, and 2171. The 2135T and 2152 have the Top Port type muffler whit a spark screen on, and the 2159 and 2171 have the Tube type muffler.
One should think that over here all the muffler would be the EU type, at least for the one's that this is available for, but that’s not the way it is. Mine Jonsered are like this, the 2171 have the Standard Tube, the 2159 have the Tube EU, both whit one baffler-plate in the middle, and the 2152 have the empty Top Port DF, and there is one Tube EU muffler for this saw. The 2135T have one empty muffler whit spark screen, and if the IPL I have seen is correct, it is the only muffler for this saw.
And yes, that the new Tube type muffler have baffler-plate in the middle, can be because it is no easy way to put a spark screen on it.
Well I did fire up all 4 Jonsered because I should check the RPM on them all, and the sound would surprise you, one should believe that the empty Top Port muffler would be lauder, but it is the Tube type whit baffler-plate that is lauder, not mush, but so laud that one almost did not now if the smaller saw’s was started or not.

After reading allot about this saw’s, I was eager to starting to use them.
The 2135T is a really powerful little screamer, that surprises me mush more then I would have thought of, at least after all the negative I have read about this and similar saw’s (338/335/334/2135) here on AS. I think the Jonsered 2135T is one great little powerful screaming top handle saw.
The power from the 2152 and 2171 was something around what I thought it would be, so I’m happy whit that, great saw’s.
But the 2159 was a really nice surprise. Because what I have been reading here on AS about this saw’s (359/2159), I was thinking that modify the muffler was something that one had to do to get some power out of them. But whit the Tube type muffler on the 2159 it’s really a powerful saw and that is a great surprise.
So the Tube type whit a baffler-plate in the middle of the muffler, that’s on the 2159 and 2171 that I have seems to be some OK mufflers. And what’s really nice, is that you can easily modify this Tube type muffler, so I think I’ll see how this saw’s will be power wise after some time, a year or two. The 2135T and 2152 is as good as broken in, and the 2159 and 2171 I have just used for some short time, so I’m waiting for some better weather (and a better back) that can give me some guts to get out and start cutting.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but I talked to my dealer Monday about the 2135, and he said that there were 28 design changes between the 2135T and the 334T it was copied from. He said people hated the 334 so Husky discontinued it, and when Jred decided to come out with a top-handle, they basically fixed everything that was disliked on the 334. The distributor here even took great pains to point out the flaws of the 334 and the fixes Jred made. I can't say whether or not the dealer is accurate, but I'm not surprised to hear you like the saw!

Well it's no hijack ;) This is what I know, the Husky 335xpt is out, but the 334T is still here. And yes, the 334T and 2135T have some difference in the construction but is in basic the same saw. And I like the 2135T very mush, it's one real powerful little screamer :D
