You don't realize they have vibrated out until your recoil falls in the snow. 5$ a piece for OEM is not acceptable, so sourcing replacement AM ones and spares are the goal. First time I've had them come loose on a plastic cover, had some choice words fill the air as it was the one time I didn't bring a spare saw.

Guess for you folk stuck in the land of imperial measures- you cannot just pop to the local hardware store and grab packets of 5mm X 0.8 cap screws?
Heck, even Stihl 5mm T27 fixings work (think at least one of my Jonsered saws has a recoil cover held on with Stihl fasteners.) :)

I do have a couple 3 places in my area that stock the correct thread and length, but are socket head cap Allan/hex drive. Haven't found any that are Torx drive.

And yes, I have converted a few covers with all hex head drive just to complete the project that day! LOL

A few of mine have hex drive cap screws where there used to be slotted Phillips drive- it isnt a problem as long as your recoil rope is in good condition before you head to the woods- or if you carry a 4mm hex drive with you!
Just steal the T27 ones out of Stihl wrecks- there are thousands of them about.

I have had a few of the Husky saws that have the Phillips on the recoil and or top cover. Then the same model a few years newer will have Torx. It's a fun mish-mash!

Yes, my To-Go ammo cans have all the tools needed to damn near do a full rebuild on site! Ya never know what ya might need out there...

I would rather have it come off and fall in the snow then come will racing a piped Mac 125 in the cut. It sent flywheel fins soaring and the recoil into my left leg tearing through my chaps and into my leg. That was a rough three hour drive home

Confirmed, m5-.8. Dug deep in my spares and found THREE matching ones, damn it! So will go looking for some tomorrow, torx or whatever.
Don't know if you have Tractor Supply stores in your area but if you do, they usually carry a good selection of metric screws. Both allen and torx. Good luck and Happy New Year. OT
