We developed a small leak on the seal on one of the lift cylinders on our chip truck. Rather than rebuild it, is there an additive that anyone has found successful in stopping leaks?
Thanks in advance,
Phil

Nothing man, Bite the bullet and fix the leak. It's always a nice thought that there is some miracle juice to solve problems, but in my experience the best road is to just fix it right. Is it leaking from one of the tubes/hoses or from the rod? If it's the tubes/hoses maybe it's just a loose fitting?

I have seen people use the auto transmission stop leak. All it does is soften the seals and maybe prolong the inevitable. But you are exposing your whole system to a seal softening agent, which cant be good for it.
Packing the cylinder is usually not as bad as most people think it is, the biggest challenge is getting the cylinder apart.
If it is a small external leak, you might get away with running it a long time with it leaking. The good thing about dump beds is they don't go through very many cycles.

My mechanic and I just replaced a few worn gasket seals on a few pieces of equipment today. Pain in the neck. Dirty job, but so much better now knowing its not leaking. Just the nature of a hyrdo system they all will leak, requires maintenance just like everything else, all you can do is find the leak and fix it.

Thanks for all the help. Actually, the leak is completely stopped. As some of you may or may not know we operate a faith based tree service on a volunteer basis to show God's love to an indifferent world. We don't charge. Some people donate to help with expenses; some don't. I'm explaining this to background what happened to the leak. On the way home from a job this morning my partner was whining about having to pull the cylinder and spend the money to get the leak fixed. He said "with the type of work we're doing, why can't God just fix the leak?" When he brought the truck over this afternoon to pull the cylinder the leak was gone. No leak. We took the afternoon off. If you're a non believer this probably sounds stupid. As for me and my partner; we'll continue to trust in God's eternal care.
Regards,
Phil
