Been some serious discussions and some down right fights to say the least. Some good comments and some that weren't meant to be constructive and some that have been in the right direction.

Hyway is one of those manufacturers that seems to be listening... they have been making some serious improvements with your feedback driving the fixes. Recent release of the 359 kit and now this one show that they are listening to you.

Latest improvement is the addition of Caber rings included it the kits... and I believe this is a very big step on there part. This is the first kit to contain these rings. I'm not sure if every kit has been upgraded to include them, I'll do some asking, but I believe they are going to put Cabers in every package.

This kit is a Husqvarna 268. Not sure why the 268 when a 272 will fit but OK. Kit looks great, plating is very nice as is the quality of finishing. Looks exactly like the GILARDONI CYLINDER OEM kit with the swept intake.

Tapered bore to help compress the ring during installation

Nice combustion chamber shape and tapered toward the chamber. This should make good compression.

Great kit in my opinion and as always.. a price point that just can't compare.

And lastly... the Weedeaterman 90 day replacement on a failure!

Another great looking kit.

Like you, I wonder why not the 272?

They make a 272 kit already.. but I don't think they are catering to us. I think that for the most part that the end user is just a guy needing a replacement and that most users are not Arborist site guys, we are an exclusive bunch! AND to be honest, they've never had any feedback until now. We care, most people don't and are not as smart either.

Joe Blow the homeowner looks at the saw and it doesn't run. He takes it in and the dealer says it's toast. Dealer tells him just enough to make the guy ask himself "can I fix this saw" or he buys new because he can't fix the saw based on his limited knowledge of the repair. Does a minimum amount of legwork, comes up with replacement parts and BAM.. saw runs again. He uses it to cut a couple limbs once a year and the kit lasts 100 hours. For US, that's a few cords of wood, a GTG or two and we're not happy without 180psi and perfect port shape! Joe Homeowner is HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY! He fixed it himself, saved a couple hundred bucks and when done, puts the saw back on the shelf until next year when it won't run because of a fuel issue. We're happy because he'll sell that saw for a few bucks to pay for that cylinder kit he bought.. A Craigslist ad goes up and the cycle is complete.

We up-grade to the 272 because we know better, but we're not the target audience.... Joe Homeowner is and honestly, like a few guys have said, manufacturers don't listen because Joe Homeowner isn't complaining. I spoke with a MAJOR supplier and he told me that his target is Joe and that I'm a special customer:dizzy: because of my demand for a quality replacement.. not just any replacement but a very good one. AND since I do buy in volume, he's now listening and sending that back to the manufacturers. Joe Homeowner will benefit from our feedback as well, but we benefit the most in the way of performance and longevity..... Joe doesn't care.

Its volume that drives the market PERIOD....Buy cylinder kits!

A very well thought out and accurate reply.

I got a 359 jug and all I can say is wow. What a great looking kit.

Now I need a 7900 kit. :msp_sneaky:

+2. I see no point in putting a 268 open port top end on such a saw! :msp_confused:

You and I wouldn't do that, we KNOW to put the 272 kit on... But then again you and I are not Joe Homeowner.

I'm not as familiar with a 268, was it a open port cylinder to begin with? I see the GILARDONI CYLINDER is open ported, is that the maker of OEM cylinders?

That's the 268 design I'm familiar with.

Looks like a heck of a cylinder. I had an open port 268 and it was no slouch with a 20" B&C. No issue with building one that way again. Keep up the good work Hyway!

Wow that kit looks really good compared to some other ones that have been posted.
If I need a cylinder it will be Hyway.
Randy which AM Cylinder kit is the best right now in your opinion?
Thanks.

It depends on the saw model.

Meteor's are usually pretty good and so are Tecomec... however, some of those are junk!

For the 066/660 its the Mako by Tecomec in 54mm
066/660 BB kit my aftermarket kit in 56mm, same kit MCW carries over in AUZ.
The 460 its the Meteor
361 its the Tecomec
034/036 its the Meteor
The 372 BB kit that I carry is killer, same kit MCW carries over in AUZ.
359 in Hyway brand.
This Hyway 268 looks great and so does the 272
The 346XP isn't a branded kit, best out there currently.

And Caber rings reign supreme.... right next the Tecomec brand rings. Same exact rings really.

Hyway is closing the gap rapidly on Meteor and Tecomec. They've introduced several new kits this year alone and if they continue with the way they're going now, I expect several more kits this year (little birdy told me) to come. They will be the largest producer of "quality" kits out there!

I'll get flogged for saying this but the 268 feel like they have more ballz than a 272 stock. I realize that this shouldn't be the case. Its not a huge difference its just something I've noticed.

OK back to the thread. Nice looking kit as always. Is this kit in the same ballpark as your 272kit price wise? I'm sorry if its been posted I'm at work and not able to devote my full attention.

I got a 7900 kit here and they look pretty nice too.

Also I have had the 372BB and the 660BB A class (Aussie) kits. No complaints about any of them.

The 7900 is Hyway and a really good one at that! The big bores you mentioned are not made there, just that MCW turned me on the the distributor as there isn't one here in the US.

IIRC there was a closed port 268SE in the early 268's. Jeremiah Johnson (member) had one may still have it. Most I have seen were OP Gilhardoni cyls.
Shep

I got the 7900 BB kit and have about 5 tanks thru it, very strong. Almost keeps up with my best 660. Maybe after 5 more tanks they will be real close.

Had to open up the muffler to get the most out of the 7900.

Really appreciate your efforts Randy!!!

The 268SE was the same as the slightly later XP, with a closed port top end. The "Special" (made after the 272XP had replaced the 268XP) also was the same.

The "plain" 268, also made after the 268xp was discontinued as such, was the only 268 using the open port Gilardoni. However, the same top end was used on the earlier model 66.

If a 268SE (or XP or Special) has an open port top end, it is not the original.

Actually it was the last top end to be OEM on a Husky 268 - see post above!
