I have found a old Fichtburgh Model TWC915 with a 9 inch throat. It is powered by a 318 cubic inch. Can anyone tell me if this is a good machine and what a reasonable price for it would be. According to the seller it works fine. Thanks

Fitchburg

This company is no longer in business. I would be concerned that if you need a part for it in the future, you will have to have a machinist make the part. Whisper chippers have become a dinosaur in our industry. There are very few manufacturers who still make this style of chipper as they can be very unsafe. I believe Altec (formerly Woodchuck) still makes them.

Just my two cents.

Thank You

Thanks for the response. I am still looking, do not want anything unsafe. Have heard many stories about chipper/shredders.

I narrowed my search to a minimum 12" disc chipper when I was looking. I would up with a 1987 Bandit 12" hydraulic feed disc chipper powered by a 2.3 liter Ford 4 cylinder engine. It was cheap, at $2700. The good thing is I made the money back in no time. Now I am looking at rebuilding the engine and hydraulic roller system. The engines are a dime a dozen but the rollers........I'm not too sure. Badger is now out of business so I have some research to do.

I would try to buy a brand that is still in business and pony up some more cash for a machine in better condition.:rolleyes2:

Looking for used chipper

When I was in the tree business we would only buy 12" Disc Chippers with atleast 80HP or more with a Diesel eninge. There is no comparsion between gas and diesel. Good Luck

I am a big diesel fan, the chipper is the only large item I have that is gas powered. I have a 4-71 Detroit with 89 original hours that I'd love to put on a chipper. Some day I will find a Bandit with a blown engine and make it a Screamin' Jimmy powered unit.
