I did a very nice prune job a month and a half ago. Two trees one was a Bradford pear. reviewed job with customer in detail. I do job quite nicely. all beautiful cuts at branch collar. I get call week later customer wants me to take another foot or so off the top but wont be back for another 3 weeks. I grudgingly say OK. 41/2 weeks later customer is back I go over start pruning top of tree I am half way done and I send my groundy to house to show homeowner what I am doing. homeowners father is there he says he wants 6-8 foot more taken off tree. in other words "topped" I am cringing. I tell him how it is not good for tree how it weakens the tree how it stresses the tree how it can lead to disease and bug infestation. How I might as well had not done a thing because it will undo all the beautiful work I had already done in the tree how it would look ugly and it would cost him more and if he felt in the slightest way as if I was trying to rip him off by wringing more money out of him them do not pay me at all ( they still had not paid me from a month and a half ago). and I would be on my way. He wanted it done no matter what and would happily pay the extra money ( it was an additional $100 on a 30' tall pearl with a wide spread. I did it, I topped the tree. I felt bad the tree felt bad and I hope the guy felt bad. I feel like I just got paid for sex. I am half joking about this whole thing but it still bothers me. I am now a troll.

I feel for you. I go through the same thing every week....I should get some of these guys to do a recording on topping so I can send it to them so I don't waste my time.

Dont worry you're not a troll....

You're a HACK!

just kidding...

so you topped a tree...was it the bradford pear?

don't sweat it, you gave the customer what they wanted and you got paid, you could have topped them at the ground and they would probably grow back so don't sweat it..........

I never understand why people plant ornamental trees and when they start to get tall they want them topped. I sometimes find myself going to estimate and convincing the homeowner out of me doing the work. Not because my skills but because I hate more then anything to make an improper cut.

It bugs me when I am in a tree cutting and I cut half the limb off that just happended to be the part of the limb hanging over the driveway or house and the nosy home owner says. Great that's fine. I often find myself telliing him that the price will be no diffeent whether or not I remove the rest of the limb so he might as well have it removed so it isn't an eyesore.

" HE WHO PAYS THE PIPER PICKS THE TUNE "
yes unfortunatly its all too common for home owners not to listen to professional advice, although there is a great satisfaction when you have to remove the tree for them a few years later because it died.:monkey:
