I was about 50 feet up in a red oak setting my climbing line.I guess she had a nest a couple oaks away and I never noticed.

I never heard her coming.she hit me in the back of the neck and knocked my hat off.she drew blood on my lower scalp/upper neck.at first I thought a dead limb from the tree next to me fell.

I cut a branch off afterwards and held it like an umbrella because she came back around for a few more attempts at my head.afterwards in my nervousness of a repeat attack I incorrectly rigged a top out and forgot to unhook my lanyard before making the back cut and took a pretty good rag doll beating.I am sore now but I'm sure the AM will be worse.

I had a bad feeling this morning about going to work and I wish I had listened to myself.

anyways,I'm glad to be alive and glad I tied into a different tree.

Just a reminder to everyone to be safe out there.

Never had a hawk attack me. Glad your ok. Around here it's those damn Mexican Blue Jay's, they can be nesting 200 feet away and if they have babies in the nest they will dive bomb you to no end.

wow.....thats rough. My brother had a bald eagle try and use him for a perch. He heard whoosh whoosh behind him and turned around for a view of TALONS!!!!
I heard him scream and duck and looked over to see the eagle trying to recover before hitting the water.....FUNNY!

I also got hit in the head by a rabbit last week.....the dog was chasing it and it was too busy looking over its shoulder to see me under the truck and slammed right into my head. I was not expecting it and did not have time to grab it....bummer, it was a big one too.

Holy crap Steve that would have been one for the camera for sure. Thats a story youll be telling for many years to come. Good to hear your alright though.

I heard stories about squirrels.

very scary

im glad your ok..

I have had a mother squirrel go ape sh!t on me before..

be safe..

guy here had a squirrel in the bottom of the bucket.it ran up his pant leg and shirt.I hear he got scratched up pretty good.

I'm glad it wasn't a mother raccoon.I hear they are a hand full and I don't like rabies.

I used to have a captive red tail when I was young. They are fierce animals.

Be sure to wash those wounds with lots of antiseptic soap. Their feet are not very sanitary, and they are not above eating carrion, either.

Had a squirrel attack a kid here who was climbing, fell out and hit real hard, paraplegic now.

Glad ur ok, big birds are no fun

It must be something about you, because I still have those pics of the rock climbing trip we took.

man ive been urinated on, had whole walnuts dropped on me, and been stung to no end(due to a climber descending into the nest he just cut out and panicing, couldnt get his belt off so i had to dive into the swarm from hades...)

but a kamakazi(sp?) hawk?! no thank you!! them things are sharper than than my orphan squirells by miles!

Glad your OK but I have to admit I have been LMAO through his whole thread! :hmm3grin2orange:

Same here ,something scary and funny as heck about it at the same time. LMAO at the rock climbing picture!!!!

No doubt!

Your average red tail hawk has talons at least 1 1/4" long, and their grip is phenomenal. I don't doubt that they could easily bury all 4 talons on each foot into your muscles if they chose to.

Ooooh! Wouldn't that hurt!
