Dig into the remaining part of the cat with a screw driver or small pry bar and tear it into pieces or grab it with needle nose pliers and pull it apart then blow the remaining bits out of the muffler.
This will only take a few minutes.

I will try tear it up the rest of the way. I wouldn't have bothered but running other saws really showed me how stopped up that one is.

how this cylinder look

I didn't get all of it though. Can I leave it like this? CS-450P

You have to pull the muffler apart. I used a torch to heat the seams and pried 3 sides open. Then you cut out the entire catalyst

Not an easy muff to mod...
Separate the 2 halves by heating 3 of the seams with a torch and pry them open.
Cut out the entire catalyst case with a cut-off and plasma torch.
Tack weld that now loose plate.
Open up the exhaust side to match the cylinder. Open up the screen plate. Reassemble making sure to line up the bolt holes.20230428_101920.jpg20230428_110030.jpg20230428_110025.jpg

I aint that skilled. I do appreciate the info though.

Welding? I can stick rebar together but if I tried weld that muffler all i would get is a puddle of metal.

Thanks all

You might be able to buy a non cat muffler, I did for my CS211T from an aftermarket supplier. Don't see how the remnants of the cat could get sucked into the motor but it would plug the spark arrestor for sure (if you didn't remove that. The one I got is a 'Forrester' replacement part from 'Sawitagain'.... 24 bucks.

Somebody said the muffler for a cs-440 will fit and is non cat.

But i can't part with 50 bucks without a second on that

I could probably go into business doing cat deletes (until the EPA caught me that is).

Like I said, pretty simple. Take an angle grinder with an abrasive wheel and separate the halves and then remove the entire cat with a cutoff wheel in a Dremel. Clean the halves to shiny metal and clamp together and MIG weld them back together using shielding gas and wire.. Paint as necessary and put it back on. You may have to adjust the mixture screws but then again, maybe not.

With the adoption of the coming T5 mandates, even your lawnmower will have a cat. Isn't that exciting?

I took more cat out. But it's a long way from a clean bore where the cat was.
My question is whether this still poses a risk. I want the saw to last. Should i just get a new muffler?

Is the metallic gasket still on that muffler??? That surface doesn't look like the smooth sheet metal of a muffler.
