One of the pines in our yard had an obvious crack in the base of the trunk and I presumed it to be housing ants. Well with snow weight and some pretty good winds recently, I decided it was time to come down before the tree decided to do it on it's own. I was dumb and didn't take a before pic :censored: but oh well.

Wasn't exactly sure how things would go as far as the extent of the rot. But I suppose all went as well as I could've expected.

Hit my intended lay so I was pleased

Tools for the day. Didn't use the wedges but always like to have them near by.

Sure it's pine, but I just can't let it go to waste

And just for fun, I simply HAD to do one of these shots that everyone else likes to post of their saws :D

And yes, I used the tobaggon again to move the wood. Now if I could just harness it to the dog...

Your an animal Nuzz. I hate just bringing split wood off my hill into the house to burn. Let alone the whole deal like you.

Believe me, this is NOT the way things will normally go down

I'd like to be bringing in all my split and seasoned wood for the coming year every September or so. This cutting, splitting, and burning same day has got to stop!! :givebeer: All I can say is... "next year"

I hope they don't move into your house when they warm up....

Hope so too!! But in reality, they'll be long burned by then :D Otherwise there's no way in hell I'd bring ants in the house like that. I was worried enough about ants in the woodpile throughout the summer just because it was close to the house.

In the North Woods of Maine it is written that loggers would eat frozen ants. Protein. Now, your mileage may differ............:givebeer: :givebeer:

Lots of ants in wood here, heck, half of my saw fuel goes to ants, or hibernating yellow jackets, except I don't light it. Fire ants are also a problem on groundwork, if it's in the summer. Nothing worse than kneeling down in a fire ant bed.
