Snow plowing options???
I'm in a bit of a situation as i need to decide what vehicle i want to plow snow w/ this winter. I have a brand new Chevy 2500hd 4x4, which is my original plan. However i also have a 97 Jeep wrangler 4x4 w/ 4.0L I-6 w/ 33" bfg AT and it does well in the snow, it however has 95k miles. Thus i worry about the tranny/clutch, as it's a bit touchy. If need be this could be fixed before hand though.
I ask b/c i know it would be easier maneuvering w/ the jeep as well as the prospect of screwing up my brand new pickup. Well, this doesn't exactly excite me. I think I might as well use the jeep as this would at least give it a practical use, and leave my pickup for trees and hauling.

Anyone have an opinion? Anyone ever use a jeep for plowing? How did it do?

Only 95k on the Jeep? You say it is a bit touchy-Do you mean that you have a clutch problem or are just worried about the driveline? I'd use the Jeep. If it needs aclutch put one in and smile.

I have used my 02 2500 HD for three years now for snow plowing and have had no problems. I plow slow and easy and the truck does handle it well. I agree, use the newer truck.

But I can also see the reasoning for using the jeep.

Just bought 05 superduty and plan on putting the plow on it. I buy the trucks to work ...and they do but I am careful.

How much plowing are you planning on doing?

If you are worried about screwing up the truck plowing then you should be worried about killing the jeep. Plowing can be done without trashing a vehicle. I've been plowing lots and driveways for 7 years w/ a 97 gmc K1500. I have yet to experience any transmission or suspension problems outside of the typical realignments.

From the sounds the jeep has a jacked up suspension? I would think you might run into problems with your ability to push if the weight is over the plow as opposed to being behind the plow.

I've plowed with Jeeps and full-size pickups. It depends on the application. If I'm doing a parking lot, I want the dump truck with the salter. If I'm doing a big driveway, I want the full-size truck with a lil salter on the receiver. If I'm doing a tight driveway with lots of circles and turn-arounds, I want the loader or the Jeep.
