I recently had the starter rebuilt on my Bandit 90xp and I was without it for a few days. In the meantime we did some trimming and had to stomp down everything in the truck (which is what I did for a few years before purchasing the machine in November of 2010).

Wow I will never take that chipper for granted! I really missed it. We dumped 5 loads of branches at my dump site and my guy chipped it all yesterday. As an experiment I had him chip it all into the truck before dumping and it only filled it 3/4 of the way full! That's more than a 5 to 1 ratio, not to mention having to use time and diesel to run back and forth to my dump site 5 times. I love my machine:msp_smile: Best purchase I ever made besides my wife's ring.

I love your chipper too, Mike. Maybe not as much as your grounds men though.:msp_biggrin:
Glad its back up and running.

Its sooooo frustrating to be without a chipper, I have one for each crew and a spare if either goes down. has not been needed for a year and 2 weeks, but it REALLY takes the pressure off knowing that you have a backup.

i have a 90xp also its a mean chipper for being 9inch i have the johndeere powertec 4.5l and love the unit it out chips my old 200 with the ford stright 6 what motor does your 90 have?

Mine is a 45hp deutz diesel. Love that little beast. It's just under CARB so all I pay is for trailer registration. I have heard great things about the John Deere as well. Perfect machine for a small outfit.

FTA- CARB, incidentally, regulates portable diesel machines 50hp and up (at least that's what I have read). I am uncertain about gas motors.

Beast- I am glad for my groundmen too. I am quite happy with the veteran climber I use as well!

I see. Nice to know. :msp_thumbup:

enless your tearing down a lot of big trees that machine is top notch little chipper you can't go wrong with a bandit. i told the vermeer guy along time ago its not gonna happen so he stopped showing up once a week with a new machine to show me. we run ours hard and i mean hard and we have never had a problem other than general maintenance. now with the other brands we have owned i can't say that. but the I've only had to replace one clutch in 7 years if you treat it right it won't beat your pocket. i had 3 vermeer machines at one time and finally said screw it and sold them all at once. sc352 stumper bc1000xl chipper and a bc1250 when i first started. that sc352 was the thing that really hit the wallet had faulty motor mounts and went through like 3 drive shafts babying the machine. didn't really have the balls we where looking for also.

bandits are like the older cars to just easy to work on most stuff i can do myself with a craftsmen tool set you don't need anything special or have to have an engineering degree they leave you enough room to get your hand in without taking 30 covers off and 100 bolts.

After reading several similar comments about their machines, I'm definitely going to look into that.

I'm not sure whybut there are vermeers all over the road around here. I've seen one bandit here in ten years...I'm maybe at two now. :msp_thumbdn:

There was a guy around that was selling a Gravel chipper a while back. I was going to check it out, but I get out there to get him to give me a show so I could see how it does. Ever heard of Gravels???

Mike that chipper of yours is impressive. You wouldn't think a 45 hp motor would be that powerful. Sure an 1800 vermeer will eat a whole 18 inch tree, but how often do you chip whole trees anyway? And with Calif. crazy air law, it really is the perfect chipper.

My bandit model 90 does everything I need it to do, but Im a 2 man operation..... yep, I love my chipper too!

anything under 50hp is CARB exempt here in CA, registration was something like $50 for 5 yrs. for my model 90
I like low operating costs

Agree totally!!! I had a vermeer & then I bought a Bandit 90XP as a backup unit.........well I sold that vermeer & used the backup chipper, Now Im getting ready to put her up for sale! the 90`s are a nice machine, the one i got needed some work....she`s all new under the hood pretty much but the body needs some work....side panels were junk!

I redid the batt box, fenders, chute discharge flap & infeed hopper.........was gonna do a complete body job but figure the next guy can do that, If I were to ever get another chipper it would be a bandit!!!!
