I reallly miss working for a Tree Company. I went to work for a Line Clearance/Right Of Way company. I thought it would be a job for now. I miss rigging, propper pruning, and most of all removals. I wish I could find a tree company hiring. I'd probably go to work for anyone just to be able to do BIG removals with high tech rigging. Just thought I'd share my sobb story. Thanks, BB

There is a perfect job out there somewhere for everyone, and I am sure you will find it. Some days I would rather be home as well, without a 66% cut in pay. Money is not everything, job satisfaction is also important, and it is a rare position where you combine both in reasonable parity with each other. I have had $80K/yr jobs I hated, and $10/hr jobs I loved. I do have a client's pasture to clear out soem day in the spring when I can get into the place so that is something to look forward to! Hang in there.

i like it at davey. i get to do alot of the climbing because not too many people like to climb or have any desire too. 80 percent refuse to climb. as far as rigging goes i havent had an opportunity to use it but i know it will arise soon

i dont know about everyone but im not about to have a get shocked by a faze 3 wire because i didnt feel like rigging something out. im climbing a job in the next few weeks that they are shutting the power down until i am on the ground because the wires are so buried. btw one guy said he wont climb anymore because some guy hit a primary and it was swinging back and forth as he was spiking up. he said all he could do was stand there and get zapped

NJ, You probably wont get to do that much tech. rigging as long as you're doing line clearance. You may get to rope a few things down. that's about it. thanks,BB

I remember hanging out in a tree(with 4 or 5 other climbers doing the same) waiting on the L & P guy to come out and kill the phase on particularly bad spans of 'vegetative growth'.

They required the climbers to be in position when the LP guy arrived. They didn't want to waste the guys valuable time, I guess.

Most of the time this went okay. But sometimes they would take their time getting there. Usually, after hanging around for an hour or so, we would take care of the hot wire problem ourself.:D

That's cool you guys can get shutdowns. I never got a shutdown on distribution. Sometimes a line crew would hang plastic tubes over the lines, once a line crew was on site to pull the phase out of the way while I was cutting. 7.2kv single or 13.5 kv phase to phase always hot. Sometimes the tops were growing through the phases. Sometimes I had to climb between the phase and neut to trim the other side of the lines. That was fun with a wet climb line bzzzt:eek: The utility was good about shutting down the transmission lines, but there was usually hot underbuilt 3 phase running on the same poles. So you needed to be sure not to drop a branch on the 3 phase when your up clearing the dead transmission. It would have been easy to blow a fuse or burn a line down before you could climb down and get the branch off the lines. Why are all the spreaders broken on open secondaries? So they make a nice POP when they slap together because the limbs need to be pulled out from between them. Happy trimming...err vegetative management.
