I'm building a solar kiln for my milled lumber and want to mill cedar siding for the kiln. I do not have the shingle/lap-sider for my WoodMizer but it seems to me one could mill a small amount of siding by shimming one side of a kant.

Has anyone tried this? What maximum and minimum thickness dimensions should I make my siding?

Well, there was a good thread on the subject ...... on another forum that we can't link to. :D

The gist was that tapered siding was not necessary, flat boards worked just fine.

Thickness is your discretion. I make my board and batten siding a full 1" thick because I can.

I was just working on a building that the siding was made from 5/8 x 6 inch Hemlock boards and it worked pretty nice. The final reveal was 4 3/4.

My bandmill guy bought a siding attachment and he only used it a few times. You might ask around because I bet you could pick up a used one pretty cheap. The thing looks pretty easy to make also.
