It was 95 here yesterday! lol AND, my helper came over, so off we went to the woods!

I had walked in a week or so ago and found a few white pine i wanted to cut out,

standard.jpg

FIRST, we had to cut a road into them and we did that first thing in the morning,

standard.jpg

And then with the heat of the day upon us, i only cut one of them down,

standard.jpg

I sawed out two 16'-6" logs and one 8 footer. I'll mill a couple 6" x 8's out of the 8 footer to put lumber on. Now the skidding begins,

standard.jpg

And i had to skid down a VERY steep hill, (even in 4WD, my tractor couldn't climb this hill, so i had to go waaaaay around to get back on top for each "skid")

standard.jpg

to get to my "log hauling" running gear. WOW, we had no idea how hot it was until we got out of the woods and into the sun!!

standard.jpg

Once loaded, we still had to go up "sugar sand hill" to get to the road and the tractor spun all 4 wheels all the way to the top of the hill!

standard.jpg

Finally we were on out to the road, with our two big logs and a little firewood,

standard.jpg

Takeing them to the BSM, where we will mill them into lumber soon!

Hope you like the picts!

Spin all four wheels on that tractor, and you're doing some serious pulling! Nice log. What are your plans for the lumber? Always seems that even if I make it out to the woods with my camera, I never think to take pictures. I appreciate your post!

Great pictures...what brand grapple is that?

Glad ya liked the picts.!

I've been working on a LONG materials list, and i need (2) more 2x12's out of that bottom log, and after that i'll be targetting 3x8-16's, as i need (55) more of those. All side lumber will be random 5/4...

My grabble is made by ALO, same as the loader. I could have built one cheaper than buying... BUT, the way i look at it, i wouldn't have bought all new steel, so that means using what you find. When you do that, you either end up with something heavy or not strong enough, and as you have to lift the weight of the grabble every time you lift something, and you just know it will get abused!! I just didn't want to lower the amount my loader would pick up, and i didn't want to be fixing it either!

Buying one designed for my loader, and designed/sized properly, AND made super STRONG, made it worth what it cost me. I'll have it the rest of my life, so why not have it RIGHT? I moaned about the $$ when i bought it, but now all these years later it was worth what it cost! lol

Nice tractor n loader. Been looking at Frontier brand root grapples for my Deere and they r $$$. Great pictures!

Well, it cooled off some, it only got up to 89* yesterday! lol

An arborist friend brought me some logs a few days ago, so i started out with the FREE log, second from the right in this pict., a very nice blk. spruce,

standard.jpg

and i got some pretty nice 2x6's and 2x10's out of it, for myself!

standard.jpg

Then i moved on to the white pine i logged the other day, here's one of those two 16 footers,

standard.jpg

I "wanted to" get TWO 2x12's out of the "side" lumber, then mill the rest into 3x8's, but i could only comfortably get one 2x12 along with some 5/4,

standard.jpg

I ended up with a "miscut" that i threw under the forks, but that will used builting a goat feeder a friend asked me to help him build,

standard.jpg

Anyway, here's what i got out of "this" log, 3x8's, 5/4 boards and one 2x12...

standard.jpg

And here's all the lumber i milled, loaded on my wagon, mine on the right and my customer friends on the left,

standard.jpg

Well, i'm chipping away at the materials list i have to fill, and it's been one loooooong list!!

thanks again for the nice pix rob. you've got a nice system down! if you don't mind me asking, about where in the midwest are you at?

Thanks for the kind words Mike,

If you swim across the big lake, you will be pretty close to my place. lol

SR

Thanks for the photos SR. Looks like your had an enjoyable time and good weather. Here in the UK we had a drought until April then the water company banned hoses and its not stopped raining since.
