I climb on xtc and the fly as my climbing lines. Right now I'm using a blakes hitch on it and I want to see if you guys think going to a specialty cord would be an improvement. I also want to try an eye to eye prussic. Will ice cord be an improvment over the tail being the same line?

Hell yeah man. For one thing the system makes transferring your climbing system from TIP to TIP a hell of a lot faster. Just unclip your biner pull it off your TIP, then toss over the new TIP and clip back in. DONE. Also set up at the start of the climb is faster since you can leave the system tied to your climb line in your bag. Pull it out clip in and off you go.

I already use a split tail, sorry I wasn't more clear. I'm looking for information on the interaction of the dissimilar lines.

ah my bad. I follow you now, I thought you were saying you use the tail of your climb line (closed system). I just switched to beeline from HRC and I like how they both run. The only real problem for me is the smaller lines and my distel dont leave much to hold on to for descents (large ape like hands) compared to a nice piece of 1/2" and a blakes.

Give it a try! I like Ice Tail a lot, but I probably don't weigh the same as you or use the same ropes or the same friction knot; you just have to test it. But be prepared for it to look dirty and ratty almost immediately. This is appearance only as you can tell from close examination.

Just a matter of preference but I'm not crazy about the Ice. Seems too soft to me and looks like it's a hundred years old after just a few uses. I do recommend using an eye to eye prusik. Just works better for me with much less bulk than knots. Currently I'm using the 10mm Bee-line which is bomb proof. With a melting temp of 800° it has already lasted a long time with no real signs of wear. I also just bought a new eye to eye called Ocean. This will be the first time I'm using a Grizzly spliced tail. Haven't tried it out yet but it feels really nice. I prefer the 10mm prusik because I prefer the larger grip that I can get on the Distel hitch.

I'm on XTC Fire with an icetail i2i VT. Its working just fine for me! I tried beeline and found it tightened down too much on the XTC for my liking.
I agree about the appearance though, looks like crap, sicky greeny colour, but wearing just fine, mind you I'm a flyweight!

Ice is a super easy to splice hollow 12 strand double braid so I would recommend getting some in bulk and customizing you're i2i tail length to your preference. I'm a big fan of ice it seems very durable despite it's ugliness and suppleness, my 2 cents.;)

That's what I thought initially too. I've been on ice for a good 6 months now though and have changed my mind. It holds up quite well.

I tried quite a few different knots and accessory cordage and keep going back to 8mm beeline, eye to eye grizzy splice in a swabish knot.

I've been on the ice tail cord for about 10 hours now, and am really impressed with it... its weird how it can both slip better on the rope and grip it better.,..

I climb on XTC Fire too. I have bee using bee-line for a while but decided to try some Ultra Tech. If you get a few extra bucks try the Ultra Tech from Wesspur. I bought 25 feet of it for prusiks and split tails back in November, haven't touched the Bee-line since.
