had this saw show up in my garage today. I don't know what it is. The price was right, free. It turns over. Seems to have compression the starter cover is off so cant check it yet.Needs a handle. It has a serial number of #124604343.:yoyo:

Yep 044 or 046?? But as has already been said looks like the old filter cover on an 044.

 Nice Score

Not an 046, serial number's too old. And the 046 never came without a compression release. Nor did it ever come with a metal tag. And the corners on the top cover of an 046 are rounded, not beveled.

It's complete junk. Totaly worthless.

Tell you what, since I'm such a nice guy I'll send you $20.00 to ship it out to me for disposal!!! :buttkick:

Good find. How does she compare to the 044Arctic you list in your sig? Get it cleaned up and running and make some chips! Post pics.

I put the serail number in and it came back as invalid. Probably never registered.
Does your search work on Canadian saws?? I think Lakeside may have said he could not check Canadian saws. But thanks for trying.
Thanks for the info guys. This will be my fall project saw, I my pull the muffler have a look, do a compression check and gather parts as needed. I will keep you all informed on this saws progress. My brother has some logger friends and said he may get me more saws later!!! I had my other 044 and 034 out yesterday and cut up a bunch of beetle kill pine logs near me, they were 12-24in across. The 044 sure cuts well but the 034 really impressed me for its balance and weight it's not too far behind.

That saw needs a trip in the Cuda machine, she'll come out pretty...

No deal!!! Last saw I shipped south cost $80.00 to do so.

THALL10326 I just gotta ask what is a "Cuda Machine" ?? I have never heard of one. I'm thinking we don't have those in the great white north.

Oh I'm sure you have them up there. The Cuda machine is merely a parts washer, Cude being the name brand. That 044 you have there would come out looking awesome, the Cuda cleaner does a fine job.

Well I couldn't wait to check the saw out. Took the starter off my other saw and put it on this one, 135psi compression in about 8 pulls. The piston looks fine from the spark plug hole and exhaust port, maybe a little cyclinder scuffing. The fuel hose has dissolved in the tank leaving plastic gobs stuck everywhere and I can't find the clunk. The gas was absoltely foul. The starter is jammed looks like that steel plate is no good. So some work ahead.

THALL:

How do you "prep" a saw to go into the Cuda ? Cover up or protect anything ?

Well yeah there are a few things you have to do but nothing real major. First off the Cuda runs at 180 degrees, she's hot. Therefore you must drain all the fuel mix out of the saw because the heat will build up high tank pressure. Oil tank doesn't matter but the gas tank needs to be drained. I drain both for good measure. We don't want the inside of the engine full of hot steamy water so two things must be done. The intake port and the exhaust port must be blocked off. Easy to do. Just loosen the muffler, slip in a rubber strip to cover the exhaust post and tighten the muffler againist it. The intake port, samething, loosen the carb, slip in a rubber strip to cover the intake port and tighten down the carb. I always put a strip of rubber in front of the carb opening as well to keep water out of it, though it probly wouldn't hurt anything. After blocking off everything toss that huzzy in the Cuda and let her cooked for about 5 or 10 minutes. They come out spotless.

One thing to note. If you have a saw with chipped up paint the Cuda tends to peal that chipped up paint off which is no biggie, it was coming off anyway.

You drive a hard bargain. $80.00 shipped it is!!! :jester:

If your logger connection nets you more saws than you can handle (yeah right, holding breath starting NOW...) send some of them off this way to the left-coast. Rest assured, shipping will be covered!!!

Once again, good score. Get 'er clean, healthy, and purty. We wanna see pics of that 044 making chips again.

Already found a handle and starter on flea-bay, parts are very close to home. I would like to have a big saw to play with for a summer (066-084-088-090 etc) but they seem scarce and expensive. The brother looks after me, I asked him to see what he could do for getting a big one, he knows very little about saws except they cut wood.
I do lots of yard sales etc in the summer also go to another town during the summer and there seems to be a lot of old loggers and stuff there. Maybe find something there, luck seems to be what one needs and so far with saws I been batting 100. LOL:chainsaw:
If I acquire to many I will let you know, but you never seem to hear of anyone having too many saws. LOL I have a garage half full of stuff I have bought and fixed waiting for spring to sell. Am also getting the evil eye from the wife, she sees to many orange and white toys in the shop gets upset for some reason, I just say it's like quilting you have to have a bunch on the go!!!!

Update, well I had a bit of spare time tonight and pulled the jug off and was very happy to see no scoring or marks on the piston or cyclinder, the skirt was as new. Can more than likely get away with a set of rings and a hone job. The crank has no play and the rod has none. Nice to have something good to start off with.:D
