Identify this piston…

Purchased this piston on eBay. There were two part numbers on the box. One was 503 51 74-01 the other was 503 60 81-71. Only number visible in listing was 503 51 74-01 which fits a jred 630 which is why I bought it. Turns out it’s not what I thought it was. Any ideas?

What's the diameter measurement? 503 51 74-01 I believe is a 48mm slug for Husqvarna 61. 503 60 81-81 I believe is a 46mm slug for Rancher 55.

It might be a later 162 piston if the diameter is right.

Well, I may have freaked out a little on this one. After measuring it and the wrist pin, it checks out. 48mm on the skirt and 12mm on wrist pin. I’m thinking you may be right about it being a 162 piston. I believe the same part number is used on later single ring jred 630’s? The shop I work at is a husky dealer, I looked up both part numbers and got diddly squat. Here’s a picture of the other part number on the box, which is why I bought it.

Yep I had just looked that up and was going to say that.

Hard to keep up with those Husqvarna numbers, they changed them very often.

Yeah husky like to change/update parts quite a bit it seems. Not a bad thing but it makes finding information a little harder sometimes.

I think my 630 had the same piston

Mine did originally. I remember hearing and seeing some of the OEM full circle pistons had some issues cracking at that lower full circle, so I decided to go Meteor in mine.

It wasn't worth the effort to find the OEM that might not be as good.

Most definitely. The half skirt windowed pistons have to be lighter and run better from having less drag than the full skirt I’d think

Ended up finding a early 630 thin ring piston. Seems they were more concerned with performance with the early saws. You can see the windows are massive compared to the later models. That’s the impression I get anyway.
