So I bought that Echo 346 off Ebay like what was talked about in the "light work" thread.....

Rewind to a couple of weeks ago:

I had in my mind that I needed another saw here pretty soon, because of all the cutting I need to do in the next 4 weeks.
So I was trying to do some "damage control" with the little lady for when the deal goes down and she finds out.
I was telling her how it was a shame that my birthday (Dec 16) wasnt sooner, because there was stuff I could sure use sooner, like a saw, so I could get this cutting done before deer season. I explained to her how the old Super 2 has been around for 15 or so years, and it'd be a shame to just wear it out, and how handy another light saw would be.

Over the last couple of weeks, Ive been researching, discussing with you guys, and finally, grabbed that 346 off ebay for like $146.

Back to present time...

Yesterday, I knew she had ran some errands on her break from work, but I figured she went out and bought herself an outfit or something, thus why she wouldnt tell me where she went.
Well, when she got home, I was outside waiting for her, as we had to leave to ship off some items I sold. She told me to stay away for a minute. I figured maybe she picked me up a new shirt or something and was trying to hide it.

So we started loading up the jeep, and as she was loading up the back, I went to open the passenger rear door, and right there, covered up from the top, not the side, thus making it visible with the door open, was an ECHO box .

She heard me open the door, and she yelled about the time I saw it, so I yelled to..."ohhh!".

She went out and got it for me as an early birthday/anniversary (not married but been together 6 years) gift, and was going to give it to me this weekend down at our place.

I thought that was really sweet and thoughtful of her. Makes me thankful to have her. Not because she bought me a saw, but because of the thought.....ok the saw helps :greenchainsaw:

Im just wondering now; she got this one from Home Depot for $269, $289 after taxes.
Ive got one coming off ebay for about $160 shipped.

Can I use this one, and put the ebay one back in the HD box and return it, or how does that work?

The ebay seller stated they dont ship for 5-7 days, so I figure I have at least 5 more business days to wait, and Id like to fire this little dude up.

I wouldn't feel bad doing it. Home Depot won't know the difference, or care. Hell, they will even take mis-cut lumber back and refund your money!

EDIT: I forgot to add that you've got yourself a very good woman! Be very thankful!!

The Echo boxes have serial numbers on them as well as the saw. Yeah, you might get lucky and get a cashier who doesn't give a fit, but they will know you're dishonest. As far as taking back cut lumber, that's against policy and makes my blood boil quicker than anything. Thieving is thieving.

Wow, you are a luck man.

But so am I. My wife has never bought me a chainsaw, but she did buy me a shotgun. For a long time I wanted a Benelli Super Black Eagle, but when it came down to shelling out the cash, I could not do it. I always figured that the money should go towards a tool that could make a return for me. One day, not my birthday, Christmas or our anniversary, she surprised me with a brand new SBE.

My wife is the best.

My wife has actually bought me two saws, the Husky 353G, and some years earlier, a small Partner......:D :D

...and an FS200 brushcutter.

Oh Pine ridge,
This is your conscience speaking to you.....

I'm with Manual about your conscience. Besides, you don't know for sure what you will be getting from e-bay. It may not be identical. If it were me, I would not do it for both reasons.

Also, I don't live too far from you. I work at BASF in Hannibal and my birthday is the same day as yours. Small world I guess.

How'ed Gomer Pyle put that. Shame shame shame, even thinking that way. Pine I guess you showed us your true colors.:buttkick:

Wow, Ive never seen this side of the site before. Pretty quick to judge.

I dont see how what I was asking about is so terrible, since it was, after all, just asking.

I was not stating what I was going to do.

The one I purchased is supposed to be new in a sealed box.

I did not know if HD would care, if it was one new saw for another of the same....

I certainly did know know I would be frowned upon and judged for even letting the thought cross my mind. :dizzy:

The HD saw is and has been sitting here, in the box, next to me all day.

And Im not going to go so far as to try to resell it or keep it as a spare.

She has the receipt, I havent even taken it out of the box. Ill return it. Call me what you will.

A theif? True colors? Wow. Thanks.

(a serious thanks to those that help me come to my decision; this one and when I bought my 6401. Your input was priceless )

If I understand you right, you will return the saw that your wife bought, and keep the other (also NIB) one.

It is hardly likely that your woman will notice the difference, so that is probably the best way out, unless someone at HD mentiones it the next time she is there of cource.....;)

That would be the HONEST thing to do. A man is only as good as his word.

Keep 'em both. Just hide one of them away for awhile...someplace where she'll never find it...like a friend's house. Then, after a few years, break out the second one and put it to work. Might be best if you never let her see them together, though.

Twelve years from now when "her saw" is still running strong, she'll be pleased with her choice and happy that you've treated it so well.

I agree with this.

Its normal to lie to your wife, its just wrong to lie to the Depot!:pumpkin2:

If you lie to your wife long enough she will own your saws:(

After that she will be someone else's wife and he will be using your saws. Saws arrive here on a daily basis and my wife just shakes her head. I do not lie to her. As for the 2 saw dilema just return the one your wife bought. Tell her the truth. Then all will be honest and up front. That is the only way to do business..

Sigh, Bill is right. Not much fun, but right.

:bang:

She already knows about the ebay saw. She doesnt care at all.

My original question was;

Since I already have the HD saw, can I go ahead and run it, and then when the NIB Ebay saw shows up, put it in the HD box, and return it, to get the $290 back from HD......

That way, I only pay the $160 I paid for the Ebay saw, yet dont have to wait until it gets here, since the seller noted extra long ship times.

However, apparently since thinking switching one saw out with another one, that is exactly the same, apparently makes me lower than dirt, Im sorry i ever said anything.

Again, just to clarify, she already knows about the Ebay saw, that wasnt a big deal at all.

PineRidge, I'm sure you're a nice guy. You were just thinking out loud of a poor idea. We all do that from time to time.

I deal with dishonest customers on a daily basis. Too many of them think that if they lie about something to Home Depot, it doesn't hurt anyone or we don't care. That's simply not true. Home Depot is a publicly owned company, and every time someone pulls something over on us, it comes right out of our profits and our profit sharing. Items that are used and returned are 9 times out of 10 marked down to 0 and thrown away, or otherwise sit on the shelf and do not sell because no one wants to buy an opened package. I'm not talking about one or two items, but dozens upon dozens of items per day. We are not a library for tools, which too many think of us as.

At any rate, I'm glad you're making the right choice.
