So, I've been an interloper on this site for about a year, and finally let go of my pride and decided to post. Especially because I've never seen this query covered. Let me start by saying I've learned A LOT from SOME of you guys and gals and hope to FORGET A LOT of the "chit" posts I've suffered through, trying to pick the gnat chit out of the proverbial pepper. So here goes: I have never climbed or cut a palm. They are few and far between here in stumptown. My old boss, however, dealt quite frequently with them in Hawaii and once told me of some type of robotic "walkers" that take the place of spurs, especially made for palms. Anyone heard of these? I tried and failed at googlin'. Peace to all you cutters.

Welcome aboard dude!

The proverbial Palm Slayer should be able to shed some light on anything to do with, well, palms...:rockn:

Listen up kid.

Robotic walkers, some gizzmo that clamps the palm trunk when downward force is exerted on them. Very expensive but hey, no spike marks right.

I dont know who where or how much they're sold for but they are out there.

I'm not sure if they'd work well on Washy's though. Frankly, get a ladder or ewp, failing that get a high line in the head if you dont want to spike them for cleaning.

Also an Aussie company has invented and install coconut catchers ...

... then in suburbia here we have tons of these queen palm weeds, I like to spike them good, they're a sinister mofo that needs to be eradicated.

Thanks Ekka, I knew you'd chime in. I must say, I have always respected your approach to this forum and your infinite quest for furthering your knowledge base is to be rivaled. I'm quite interested in cycads as perhaps the closest thing we have here in abundance is the arucaria, damned monkey puzzle. Keep the videos coming (off topic, shoot me now).

Now I've seen some pics of those Monkey puzzles, man they suck too. That's like a palm that sprouted branches!

Have to drive you nuts doing a dead wood on one of them, yeah, deadwood it right here lady (2" above ground level).

When you get a chance post some pics of those buggers, especially if you get some shots from within the tree.

These trees where you climb them and there's always something sticking into your earmuff or helmet, something banging you on the head or trying to steal ya biners ... man they need a good whacking. Like Australia I like the wide open spaces ... like eucs have or Norfolk pines but some bunched up monkey puzzle I dunno, sort of messy interfering with ya style type of tree.

There is an old post on here that I started with a picture of them. The ones I found where $2500 for the pair.

thanks 020, I believe that is what my former employer used to trim palms in Hawaii. I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a mental image of the mechanics of these things. now I know.
