They made diesel powered saws a long time ago I seen one at a antique show.
and it was not a two man saw!
But in a gas powered saw use gas! unless it is a race saw alky powered monster:hmm3grin2orange:
I now remember it was a old Jred! don't know what model number it was.

Give it a try. Diesel makes for a pretty decent lubricant, but I'd be surprise if it will run. It doesn't make for a very combustable mixture as it would work it's way through the crackcase and ports. It typically requires a more direct atomization into the cylinder. Relatively low compression ratio's won't help either, but at least you have a spark. If it even runs, there won't be any performance.

Coleman fuel was considered on another thread. Wonder if you could run on Everclear? Expensive options to just getting more gas.

No to diesel..

The local timber yard has an 880 that's used as a "precision cut of saw "- with a 6 foot bar. The new kid, first day on the job, topped of the saw with diesel.. ran for about 10 minutes and toasted the piston and cylinder...

Can you say..."Payroll deductable"?

I think with two stroke oil for your mix, you stand a chance of getting away with using other things. I'd think you could get away with outboard oil for a day if you richened your saw up.
Using 10W30 motor oil? Old saws used 30W at 16:1, maybe it would work in new saws for a while?
Bar oil a 20:1.... maybe winter grade? I could see bad things happening....
Isn't veggie oil is used in alcohol saws? I read in DirtBike magazine many years ago where they converted a CR500 to alcohol and used veggie oil for the mix. I think it went 135mph, traction limited...:dizzy:

Anyways, I can't forsee a situation where I'd ever risk my saws running anything else than right mix! It would have to be a really well paying job and very cheap saw!
