Looking ahead to next heating season, going over a few of my options. Is it possible to install an OWB indoors? We have 20x24 2 story barn attached to our house by an enclosed breezeway. I'm curious to know if this has been done, and if it would be safe and/or feasable. I realize they are designed to be used outdoors, but what would the pitfalls of having one under cover? Has anyone here installed one in a garage or outbuilding?

Wood gassifiers are designed to be installed indoors... look at Tarn, Greenwood, etc. I do not see why an OWB cannot be installed indoors, other than EPA and local ordinance limitations. Seriously, there are laws that limit putting OWB type boilers indoors for air pollution reasons.

I have a neighbor that installed a Hardy outdoor stove in his old garage, standalone building about 100' from his house. He just put a tall chimney pipe on it, and stores his wood in there also. I have heard that outdoor wood stoves don't work as good when completely enclosed in, they work better with some outdoor temps and wind. Some old farmer told me that a few years ago, don't know the facts on that statement... I do know that my neighbor has been using his that way for over 10 years with no problems.

I would love to get at least a roof over mine, to protect me from the winter elements while loading it.
