Just wondering if anyone knows about the new 455 Ranchers. I just purchased a 261 and wonder if i should have held off and got a new tech saw. Saw them on EBay for 359.95?

I am suprised to see this saw for sale already. I just looked on ebay and could not find one. Can you post a link?

With the ever increasing EPA restrictions on chainsaws, newer is not necessarily better. I would take a 261 any day over a "new and improved" 55.

Cool, I was hoping i made the right choice. They do mention in the literature its the first in line to meet the new EPA regulations. So it probably wont run very well. I figured as much, just wanted to be sure. I am gettin ready to part with some of my old HD parts. Hopin to get enough to get one of those 346's you all talk so highly of. Got the 346 and am very pleased with it. Thanks again

Ok, gotcha. And don't worry about the old age thing. You'll fit right in around here.:D

Tried to down load the page from eBay showing the 455 Rancher but it wouldnt download. Keeps saying invalid file.

So if ya all want to see the saws, go to eBay and type in #4333174017 you will see the new husky

Hey, thanx mule. I tried to down load it but it kept saying invalid file. Anyhow, what do ya all think? Doesnt seem to be much interest. Came on line last night and still no bids.

Probably no bids because you could mail order a "old tech" 55R for $50 less. So that's the 359 e-tech and the 455R. I noticed they have a few others in the works as well, i.e. the 570/575XP. Might be time to purchase some saws and throw em on the shelf for later ;)

Expecting to see the 455, and 575 at GIE in Charlotte next week, but surprised when I saw not one, but two at a friends shop.
He knew nothing about it, and it seems dealers have been told very little about it, other than it's replacing the good old reliable Rancher 55, and will be available soon.

Wondered how he got them when other dealers who sell alot more than he does can't. He's been looking at two other lines, and had sample saws there.
Figured that he was getting 455's because his Husqvarna rep knows he's looking for a second line due to mass merchant sales hurting him, and he thinks the quality is being dumbed down for price, and emissions.

Put 455 saw between a 346, and Rancher 55.
Heavier, taller, much bigger body, and little longer.
Not nicely balanced like 346 & 55.
Sale price $399.

Closing early that day kept us from playing with it, didn't even take the cylinder cover off, but we noticed that it's looked like it had the cheaper crankcase/cylinder design of the Husqvarna 136, 353. 359 models which are copied from the Homelite, McCulloch, green Poulan saws.

From a 'looks" viewpoint, if someone wanted a saw that 'looked big' to impress people , it sure did that.

I briefly reported on it in my "2-barrels and a few more pounds" thread after seeing them at lewelvul a while back.

The cutaway they had on display inside the building revealed that at least the plastic crankcase has metal inserts to capture the crank bearings.

Husky is going exactly the opposite way they should be if they're trying to woo me. In my opinion, even the current 55R is overweight and overpriced. The new unit extends that tradition.

Your shooting from the hip again there Saw Man and your anti-E Lux bias is showing. The 353 and 359 don`t have the horizontally split, plastic shrouded crankcase that many of the smaller, cheaper, more homeowner oriented saws have. The 353 and 359 have magnesium cases just like the 346xp and 357xp, pro saws that they share components with.

And as far as the horizontally split case is concerned, it hasn`t proven to be a problem for Husky the way it was for Stihl on the 029 several years ago, and apparently Solo has not had a problem with their saws that utilize the horizontally split case either.

I`m not a fan of this type design, especially if it incorporates the cylinder into the upper half of the crankcase, but it looks like how this general design is executed is more important than whether the case splits vertically or horizontally.

That being said, I`m not a fan of the corpulent new Huskies either. Now is a perfect opportunity for Dolmar to crap or get off the pot with their purportedly earth shaking new 3 cube saw and maybe even bring a few other hot, new displacements to the market.

Oops, did post the wrong models.

Should be 136-145, 345-350 most definately. Still think the 359 is in the same design, but it's been awhile since I looked inside.
Will pull an IPL later to get reaquainted.

Thanks, Jokers & Ben for pointing that out.

I'm not biased to anything but the facts,....no matter what the color is. Highy doubt it that you'll find any major errors in any of my posts (so far) due to ingnorance.
But do confess & plead guilty to being particular about what is going on in the OPE industry, therefore don't shoot from the hip....unless I know my target definatively. Hopefully, I'm expressing that clearly, as I sometimes write fast inbetween traveling & customers.
Now....muzzleloading, Turkey, and small game seasons have my attention, and juices flowing. Bear, and Whitetail are close.
A new TC Firestorm has me out on the range trying different pellet, and ammo types....it's addicting.

Truth be told, many of the big boys have been lacking in pushing engine technology especially as relating to emissions, and some of that is catching up. If the new 'stratofied' technology the 455 sports, and it's design was the best....rest assured there would be all kinds of Husky spin about it. Take a look at their website and comments on the 455. Bland.

Agree most heartily with Joker's....especially like the use of the word, 'corpulent', that that design isn't the best, and execution is most imperative, but it's done for cost cutting, at great sacrifice of power to weight, and ergonomics.

Solo orginal saws using that design were the 647-654. Today's versions are the 645-650. I know them like the back of my hand since I was selling them way back then, and have one in my shop now to RB for a friend.
Oh, almost forgot....Solo in Germany was another of the many companies plants, and labs I been fortunate to visit. Still have great relationship, and admiration for them.
They have a great backpack blower design, and are a world leader on chemical mist applications.

Think we'll see more of this design be used by larger USA, and European companies especially since Stihl has been using it, and has done well with it in the small saws, and larger MS290-310.

Anyone going to GIE? Would be good to meet some more AS members.
