I was just in the process of purchasing a seemingly low mileage (47000K mile, 4500HR) chip truck, set up like the Aspluhnd chip trucks with the man cab. I was about to close on this truck when I took a look at the title and noticed that the title stated that this vehicle has unknown mileage in HUGE letters across the middle of the title. Now, this truck looks clean enough, needs new front tires, front brake lines, and the motor fired right up during a cold start. I was all set to fork over $9500 for it, and am now not so sure. I asked why I wasn't notified about the odometer discrepancy, and I got "I don't know what that means" The gentleman selling it is from Hungry, and seems nice enough. The truck is sitting in his own driveway, at his house, and I don't think there is an issue with his intentions. I don't NEED this truck, but it would look much better than my 1-ton parked infront of my customers properties and rolling down the street. BUT, I am only gaining an extra 2-3yds capacity, and I need another 1-ton and a sander to plow with this winter anyway.
This was a seemingly no-brainer if it actually had 47K on the clock, now it is not.
What do u guys think?

If I were you, I'd pass on the truck and try to find a similar one for about the same price. Try to find something with known mileage. Who knows how many miles that INT has, the engine might need a complete rebuild soon.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing at this point.

What year is the truck? What engine does it have in it? How many digits does the speedometer display before it has to roll over 100,000 miles, 5 or 6 digits.

Its a 97 with a B175 7.3ltr motor in it. Has 6 digis to turn on the odo

I would pass. That engine I believe, is the small DT444. If that is correct, then the engine is too small for the truck, and has been worked to death.
Speedo would not roll over until 1 million miles, so something odd is going on with the mileage showing.
It it was a 97, with the DT466 engine, I would say just have a mechanic check it over, and go for it if the report is good. The DT466 is nearly indestructable and I would not be afraid to buy a high mileage truck with the 466 in it.
In this case, I would pass most likely.
