I have been running chainsaws since I was ~12 years old and have recently been taking on more and more tree removal/pruning jobs. UPS just dropped off a big box from Wespur. In it is a combo climbing kit (spur & rope) for increasing my safety and reducing my reliance on what I call monkey climbing...I have only just joined this forum and will be reading reading reading and searching searching searching...before I start asking questions....Having successfully escaped a rewarding "career" (~25 yrs full time Industrial hygiene/workplace safety) a couple of years ago, I now am a full time ski patroller in the Winter and tree worker (self employed) in the non-Winter seasons.....I thank you in advance for your patience and look forward to learning sharing info.

Hey, welcome to the site. Those kits from wesspur are nice. Which combo kit did you go with? Oh and dont forget to study the Tree Climbers Companion by Jeff Jepson (the little white and green book that came with your kit.) Best advice I can give you.

Mobility kit - I've already started reading the book....

Welcome! This is a great source of information. Do you have much climbing experience with real gear, you did mention monkey climbing.

Welcome. Go slow and low. Build your confidence and go up. Use the search forum for good info. Good luck!

small amount of rock & Ice...as for tree work I've been doing it for awhile with a make you cringe style of ladders and slings up into and throughout trees....that is what I was calling "monkeyclimbing"

Yikes:msp_scared: So you said you have the mobility kit, lots of great gear in that one, very similar to my setup actually. Once you get the hang of using all that stuff you will be climbing twice as fast and about 10X safer than the monkey style. Best of luck
