Hey guys pretty new to the site and love it. Also new to the tree industry and I think I love that more! I'm 22 and graduated from lineman school in march and applied to an arborist position not really knowing too much about the industry. I have already learned so much and cant wait to learn more. I am just a groundman but they have gotten me in some trees climbing and doing small pruning jobs when the foreman thinks I can do it. Like I said I love the work and really want to stay in the field. I guess my biggest question is can you make a good living once you become certified and with more experience? And im not talking about getting rich having all the little toys and such because I have been raised to live within my means. They started me at 14 whith a cdl which I did not think was bad considering I had no experience. Thanks guys! Also any advice would be great. I think I am doing a good job always watching and learning and have really picked everything up pretty well (at least my foreman and manager say so!)

It seems you have a good situation going on..and a good foreman..!!

Just go slow and steady..and stay focused..!! "Rome wasn't built in a day"

Recently saw a climber go up 50' with NO safety line....Just Don't Do It..!!

Welcome from down under sport tis a good mob here. Your interest in trees will provide you an income, it will not be grand but the rewards each day make it worthwhile. I am surprised by a graduate linesman going towards tree work, would kinda thought more and easier money stringing wires and poles. Still be good to have a power monkey on board your skills may help some here with the many tree vs wire matters that arise.

My boss is leaving for his fourth va ca next week. Canoeing in Alaska for three weeks. I would say he is making a pretty good living. He has a couple of good crews back home so he won't have to worry to much while he is gone. I am no long time vet, but I would say the guys who learn the trade well, how to do things properly, earn a good living. I am doing it part time now and hope to go full time within a year. It's hard work, and that is something a lot of people are afraid of these days. But, if you love it like I do, you never work a day in your life. And you will never have to pay a gym for a membership cause you will do more in one day than most do in a week!:msp_wink:

Welcome to the forum and congrats on Lineman School!

I work for a Utility also, 24 to 7.
