Welcome, I'm sure you will find help here. What saw you working on?Hey everyone,
New chainsaw enthusiast here looking for helpful information from those more knowledgeable than I am in rebuilding saws.
Currently working on a 372xp I just bought, piston scored pretty bad but I'm trying to salvage the cylinder.Welcome, I'm sure you will find help here. What saw you working on?
Let's see a pic of the front and rear of the piston. Do you know the cause of the damage? That must be figured out so it don't happen again.Currently working on a 372xp I just bought, piston scored pretty bad but I'm trying to salvage the cylinder.

It's a toss up between unmixed fuel or heat seizure. Here, see what you think.

Well, you figure out, which I can't tell about the fuel. Looks like a lean seize to me.It's a toss up between unmixed fuel or heat seizure.
This is the intake side.Lets see the intake side of piston.
I already reset it to factory tune when I got it thinking it was in working order. No real history on the thing, guy who sold it to me said it had hardly been used. Silly me trusted him.If it was no oil in the mix that would be ruined, it was a lean seize, count how many turns out your h jet is at right now and see if it's turned in more than the stock setting. Next thing is to vac test the engine. Who was running it and details?
Well, that cylinder may be repairable.I already reset it to factory tune when I got it thinking it was in working order. No real history on the thing, guy who sold it to me said it had hardly been used. Silly me trusted him.
Awesome thank you both so much!Cylinder is definitely fixable. I agree that it was tuned too lean or it’s sucking air causing it to go lean. Like Lone wolf said, normally the intake side will score as well as the exhaust if they are straight gassed. Emery paper will clean up the transferred aluminum. Just make certain you get all of it and that there aren’t any high spots
