this is from an 038M and it was running when I took it apart. I tore into it because it was not idling consistent. I was cutting the root ball on a 30" walnut log prepping it to mill with my 051 and did not notice any loss of power.
The groove was caused by a small piece of the lower ring breaking off. the broken piece jamed into the ring groove and galled up the area around the ring position keeper pin so I don't think I can even think about reusing the piston. I was wondering what the general opinion would be about not replacing the cyinder. What kind of wear and performance would I likely get.
My local dealer most likely won't have anything in stock either OEM or aftermarket and I don't think they deal in any aftermarket stuff anyways. What is the quality of some of the aftermarket jug and piston kits. I saw a jug and piston for $99 from Bailey's. how diferent is something like that from the OEM.
