is it worth it?

My dad has been looking at buying another saw. He wants full 24 in capabilities. His buddy just loaned a guy $400 on an 044 that is about 9 months old the saw hasnt cut very much from looking at scratches, bar paint, and sprocket. Dads buddy knows the guy , and says the saw history is true. Well the guy renigged ,and dads buddy is stuck with the saw. how much more than the 400 is it worth, If any, or should I steer him in the direction of a 372 husky. I think he could buy a new 044 for $575.

I'd think $400 is a real good price on a barely used 044. And it will definitely pull a 24" bar and chain better than most any other saw you could get for that price.

Remember that new price of $575 doesn't include sales tax. Easily over $600, if your $575 price is correct. Can't touch an 044 for that around here.

Hi ac45, if I were in the market for a saw that size and the saw is as you decsribe I`d buy it. $600 + is the price for an 044 around here and the 044 is one of the best Stihls in my not so humble opinion. Way better than the 046 and all you need for a 24" bar. Russ

For sure. $400 is an excellent price, and the 044 is an excellent all around saw.
