Good afternoon all, trying to ID, this saw. Literally a barn find, that’s been used for a bunch of years as a Halloween party prop.
Best I can ID from searching is that its an 034S. Was hoping it was an 036, but....
Here's what I know, that has led me to the 034S conclusion:
48mm piston
4mm screws in the recoil housing
tank vent is for 026,034,034S models.
I've since put an 036 tank/rear handle thaw bolted right up, replaced the fuel line, and this thing runs awesome.
piston is like brand new, so I’m think it was dropped out of a tree and never repaired.
A thimble of mix in the carb throat, and it fired right up.
Any help would be appreciated .
Thanks .......

Thanks Bob...
No idea, really... just what I’ve been able to gather so far, but I could be totally wrong...

Only reason I ask is because I got parts of an 034/036 type saw that has the 48mm piston and I am not exactly sure what it is! So I am also trying to clarify.
Mine has the tall black tank vent like the 024 family- but I have seen that part listed in 036 ipl's.

Ahh, thanks Scallywag! That'll be a dead giveaway, I’ll bet. I’ll check tomorrow and see .
Thats probably the reason for the need for a spacer between the cylinder and muffler on , I think the 036 then??

After just rehabbing an "s" The difference between an "s" and a regular 034 is the bore diameter 48mm vs. 46mm. Nothing more.

Late in production Stihl changed the tank assembly along with a LOT of related items so parts wouldn't swap back and forth between the two iterations. From the looks of your tank you have the older version. You may be able to date your saw from the date code on the side of the carburetor.

Thank you SteveSr.
The IPl will help immensely.
Im thinking more and more that this is an 034S.

Mine has an 036 muffler, but only 1 of the bottom (mounting) screws line up. I’ll attach a pic. I did find a 30+ page post on the other site, with a bunch of useful info as well. Be happy to send someone a link, but appropriately thru email or I can text a link.
It looks like I’ll need to try to find the correct muffler and spacer as well. Someone files a small notch in the top cover to make this muffler fit.

Looks like the 034S I have been using for the last 10 years... Some interesting repair solutions on your saw!

Ha! I do like how they previous owner “modded” the brake handle. The holes in the muffler can probably be wallowed
out for now, and I was able to find an older ,non floppy cap tank/handle from an 036 on eBay.
My current “big” saw is an MS290, and this thing seems like it’ll blow it out of the water. Much lighter and definitely more power. It’s got an 18” bar, but I’m hoping to put maybe a 24” bar on it(for reach)I only cut pine and aspen here.
