This is a cylinder off of an 038 50mm. On the exhaust side I can feel the grooves, but they don't catch my nail. I don't feel much above the exhaust port. It feels rougher on the intake side and I feel some above the port, but they don't catch my nail. Do you think its ok to use?

I cleaned it with acid and wet sanded it with some 400- I doubt honing more will help, but I could be wrong.

I would kind of like to adapt a Bailey's mag cylinder to it. I read a thread about slotting the holes. I don't know if I can do that without screwing it up, but if I use this cylinder with a new piston I'll save about $70.

Thanks!

No worries

Looks fine from here. Grab an Episan or Meteor piston and run it. You will love that Super.

Like the guys have said, run it. I have assembled saws with much worse looking jugs that run strong and are still going.

You are right that the 038 MAG has more zing than a Super. With that said, I would not discount a healthy running Super. The work you did on the cylinder walls looks very good. I have no doubt that it will make good compression. Set the squish when you put it back together. If it still does not make enough power for your wants, you can pull it back down after break-in and widen the ports a bit. There are Magnums to be found on the cheap if you just have enough patience.
