We live in the St Louis Missouri area and recently purchased an Elm tree from a local nursery. It was planted in our yard about a month ago but I’m noticing this near the base of the trunk now. What am I looking at? Is it normal or should I be worried? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is your tree a lacebark elm?
It does appear to have some wounding around the stump area. Possibly from being bound with twine and burlap for too long. However I wouldn't be to concerned about it, just monitor it.
