Is this wood from a pissard plum (aka Prunus cerasifera or purple-leaved plum)?

This one is a long shot because I have no leaves to show (they had already shed for the season), which I know are essential to identification, but I need some ideas on the species. It is a broad tree, deciduous and the wood was very resilient when I hit is with the ax, it behaved like willow wood-springy. Its leaves are dark purple, simple and about 2-3” long, 1” wide. Did some internet research and came up with plum but could be way off. Any guesses would be appreciated.

?

there are lots different kinds of plums... many look the same.... more info needed.... yeah it looks like a plum but to narrow it down more then that is tough without more input
