Hi

I have a small (2-man Crew) business in Pierre, SD. We basically remove trees, trim work, climbing, and sell firewood to the local gas station.

There are three 'professional' companies in the town as well....what are your thoughts on getting Arborist certification. My partner in crime wants to spend the money to gain the certification, i feel it can be spent elsewhere. outside of the literature is there any real need to have a certified Arborist for removals or trimmings>?

If your comp is not certified, it would set you apart from them. May help win some bids or get municpal work. Some smart marketing could really set you apart from your comp. It's really not that expensive. Bit of a pain to keep up with CEU,s but worth it. If that's not for you, try the Certified Tree Work option. Again something to set you apart from the comp or local hack.

If you can do it as said it just set's you apart and maybe a little birt above the rest, now I don't want to start any thing here on AS , but I got mine in 1997 and have not looked back , I had been doing tree work for 17 years but after everone looked at me just a bit different lissend a little bit more to what I had to say and yes called a little bit more. I would say go for it !
