First, I would like to say that this is an important position for the ISA to have. I mean, many of the complaints I hear stem from the fact that they don't have as close of a handle on the real world of arboriculture work that they should have. Someone researching new techniques and on the phone all the time with people in the field could really stay close to new developments and know at the same time what's prevalent.
Secondly, the quality of the products of the ISA would grow if someone in the office was writing technical documents and articles with that kind of knowledge and real world connection. This was a dimension that Tim Walsh brought to the National Arborist Association while he was there.
I think this would be a cool job if I didn't have grad school this fall. Aside from the fundamental understanding of adult education (which I'm working on), I'd like to think that I meet the basics of the job. At the very least, it would be a terrific learning experience for a couple of years. I think someone from AS should at least apply!
