Lakeside posted a pic. of Spring in the Northwest. The pic was of a Trilium. I took these pics yesterday.

The flowers are from an ancient Crab apple tree. It oold, and falling apart, but still manages to flower.

Anyway, what a long time between the Northwestern Trillium and the Northeastern Trillium.

Nice.... The first is not a crab apple though! Is your trilium that color when it first comes out or just as it ages?

Jack in the pulpit

I was just out in the woods the other day and saw a bunch of the Jack in the pulpits, our Triliums are about gone now in VT.

Yes, this is the color at prime time. I have a "grove", or is that a "gaggle", of Trilium, that I have protected over the years. It is in the middle of some bushes that are not totally leaved out yet, and is 15'-20' wide, by 50' long. I took a couple of pics of the whole thing, but as the trilium flowers hang down, it just looks like a lot of green.

I've also got a fair no. of Jack in The Pulpits. In fact they are under the ancient crapapple. Perhaps the flowers did not look like Crapapple, cause this is not one of the "Flowering Crabs" that is sold today. This Tree is twice the size of a full grown regular apple tree. It's hard to distinguish it behind my woodshed because there are other trees in the pics. But the white flowers are it, and there is a lot of it not shown.

The two chains hanging on the right were found along the West Branch of the Penobscot River. They are from the days of river driving wood. Boom chains.

You guys are making me sick! We have had a cold spring, about 5-6 °C colder than usual. Two nights down to 0°c this week.

I was tilling the field today but we are weeks away from flowers and blossoms. The tulips have leaves but no heads yet!

What do you have to mill? We could get together and you could try out the alaskan. Send me a PM. Off to bed for the evening!!!

'cut out the pics'

im an engineer and have lots of access to timber being cleared for subdivision(mostly big red spruce(10-18 inch butts this year). however at my lodge(granite lake area) i have access to some pretty good big timber. my idea for the mill is because im a 'pick fingers and a packrat'---and since not much need for a 90cc saw here, and i thought it would be a fun project.

who do you use for service for the 66, most guys i talk to dont have much experience with the big saws, i currently use cbs rentals.

thanks for the pics--well be in touch.

One of my favorite parts of spring and summer are the hummingbirds. Plenty of activity this evening around the feeder!

Geeze....A while ago you posted a pic, and there was just the occasional patch of snow on the ground. At that time there was still better than a foot on the ground at my house.

I remember thinking, that despite being so far north, you were close to the water, and perhaps your climate was actually warmer than where I am in Maine. Guess not.

I bought the MS260 from CBS but they wouldn't budge off list price for the 660 so I bought it from Hiscock Rentals. I haven't needed any servicing on the 660.

Let me know when you want to try milling some of that stuff...

There is even quite a difference in the snow between the wood lot which is 40 km from where I live and home. I easily get twice as much snow at home as it is not right on the ocean. 5° C now with a high of 8°C today...

Snow is funny here because we can get 25 cm and then a whack of rain the next day and half the snow goes. This year it stayed cold and the snow stayed.

Being close to the ocean we don't get real, real cold but we don't get real warm either. No one has air conditioning in their houses and there are only a couple of days a year that it would be nice to have!
