Do any of you have a jib on your bucket trucks. Our rope is due for changing however I am having a terrible time finding a "jib rope." I can by all kinds of rope from Bailey's or other suppliers but nothing specific to "jib."

I am wondering if it takes a special rope or not at this point. The rope is controlled by a winch which raises and lowers it like a crane, and the end is braided back into itself making a loop which has a safety hook attached to that.

Any ideas :dizzy:

I would first talk to the OEM on what they recomend. Though the few guys I know that use those just put anyold rope on.

IMO a more dynamic rope then regular arbo rope would be better, more shock absorbing.

I would guess young Nick would be the best for this advice, since he knows ropes and has worked for someone who would slamdunk chunks onto his bucket winch.

The rope I have seen on truck winches looks similar to Stable Braid from Samson Rope.

They have a web site, it has been awhile since I have been to the site, I think they have a section for utilitities that would use rope instead of steel cable on winches, you might find what your looking for there.

If they have it, next you will have to find a distributor that sells their product to purchase some rope. There is also a place on the site for this information.

Hope this helps

Glen hit that one right on. The polyester double braids are probably what the personufacturers put on in the first place. Take JPS's advice and find that out.

Don't get get a rope that's too strong...it'll only encourage you to load more than the boom can handle anyway.

I bet any arbo climbing line would work well, too.

love

(ps, what was on there before? can you send us a pic?)
