What do you guys think about this saw. I am looking at one for around $600. A couple guys I work with have 2159 and like them alot but I figure the more cc's the better. I was thinking a 18" bar/chain. Here is the link on the saw.

I should add that I recently installed a OWB and will be cutting around 20 face cords of wood each year.

Thanks,

I like mine Wolf. I run a 24" hardnose bar. It's not a speed demon with that bar but does a good job pulling it.

I paid more than 600 for mine 3 years ago.

I like the air cleaner set-up -- ie turbo-- stays clean for relatively long periods.

A lot of folks prefer the 2171 to the 2165 but I'm happy w/mine:)

Only issue i've had is I broke the choke lever off -- poor design IMO

Thanks for your opinion Slinger. I am choosing the 2165 over the 2171 mostly because the 2165 is 1 lb lighter. I don't think the power would be much of a factor but I guess if I have never used a 2171 I will never know. The place where I am going to get it will allow me to put it in lay-away till march which will work out great for me. Then I will be able to put it to use when the snow melts.

Actually the dealer up here is a hardware store. I think these days they will just about do anything to make a sale. He said I could Lay-Away it for a couple of months and pay a little bit here and there. Knowing me It won't be in Lay-Away long. :)

I will post how I like it when I get it and use it for a weekend.

Hi Wolf

Until February Jonsered has $150 off if you trade in a old saw. But it sounds like you have the discounted price. I was looking a 2171 up by Indian River MI and it was $660 with the discount price. My brother got the Bailyes big bore kit for the 2171 for $114 I think he hasn't put it on yet but looks really quality. And it will fit the 2165 too if you feel you need more power later on.

Thanks for that info Cowboy. I believe the 2171 was around $100 more than the 2165. I think the prices were pretty good compared to the huskey dealer I went to.

I went all out and bought the 2186 for $710 with the $150 trade in allowance. It is a great saw for just a little more money. I prefer it over my 460 magnum and I have had Stihl saws for years. It has a lot less vibration than the Stihl. Go for it.

I do like the look of that one :) but i've been doing some research and just on my own personal opinion i would go for the 2171 because overall I think it is slightly better value for money.

Again this is my own opinion and if you did get the 2165 i would be interested to hear how it was??

I will be sure to let you guys know how it handel's when I start cutting stuff up this spring. Still too much snow around here.:greenchainsaw:

Hey guys I kind of forget about updating this thread. Well instead of a Jonsered I went ahead and bought a Stihl MS 362. Mainly because there are more Stihl dealers around here and most everybody I know has one and really likes them. I got one with a 18" bar for $659.00. So far I really like it. Beats the heck out of my craftsman.:greenchainsaw:

if you don't mind, ill answer for you on the 2165. i bought mine at the end of febuary/beginning of march from a jonsered dealer in the town i work for. he gave me what i think is a great deal - just over $600 with a 24"stainless sprocket nose bar and a few chains. it was my first new saw (bought a 625 from him and a 2054/2137 from ebay). i love it. i can't say enough good things about it. i kinda wish i did go for the 2171 but i got a free 056av mag for free not long after i bought the 2165. plus now i can start saving for the 2188 (i think its an 88). he told me thats the new upgrade from the 2186. anyway the 2165 is a great saw.

Good deal! It was a toss up for me. I'm sure I would be happy with both.

got here too late, but i'll say that i love the 21xx jonnys. just resurrected one today and took it to the woods. going to fix up the other one soon. i always have my ear to the ground for a good used deal on a 2159, 65, 71, 86.

i'd been swinging the 7900 so long that i forgot that a little saw could cut.

the stihl dealers around here are _not_ impressive--always part of a larger _not saw_ operation. the dolmar and jonny dealers are saw guys through and through--if i buy new, they're getting my money.

good luck with the stihl.
