I picked one up on eBay and it came yesterday. It has a different type of chainbrake than I have seen before. There is a kill wire leading to the brake so that if it engages, the motor will kill, also.

Were there any other saws that used this style of friction and ignition cutoff to stop the chain? Just curious.

It also use some sort of brake shoe, instead of a band, if memory serves.

All (only two) that I have seen with that brake type, has been late production Jonsereds 621s.

Thanks, Sawtroll. Would you say that the chainbrake was a rarity on the 621's? You are right about the shoe. It is like the 451EV and 521EV that I have, only there is an addional grounding wire for ignition kill.

I don't really think it is a rarity, but I also think it appeared quite late, about 1979, and it surely didn't become universal - just an option on some markets.

Also, I don't believe it was very efficient (fast), and it may have been removed from a number of saws.

The above are not facts, just how it looks to me........:biggrinbounce2:
