had a Jonsered given to me me with high idle and chain spins at idle because of that. Told idle was high in order to keep it running due to low compression/bad rings. Does this sound right?

if you're told its got low compression, get a tester and see how many pounds of compression you've got. I think these Jreds will run(not well but they will run) on around 75 pounds, but you really want to see upwards of 110, if the numbers are lower, find out why, and repair offending parts causing the low compression.

Here is a workshop manual that covers the 630, and a lot of other models.
It is from 1996.
