81 it is....

Hello,
I picked saw up this mourning & gave it a good look over. The factory sticker IMHO is not damged enough to have ever had a 0 between the 8 & 1, so the mystery is still out on the saw, but then again I think we are looking at a Jonsereds 81. Seriel # is 1606398. I am going to go do some fire wood tests & will be back inside to answer any questions anyone might have about saw, I don't know were to look for any addition # hidden in areas of saw, it has what appears to be 32 bar on it now. Looks to have never had rubber coating on top handle, only factory black paint if that helps. I see slight differances in pics of 801 & this saw in muffler area & will look for more. This is my 1st Jonsereds, so I am new to them. Impressed to say the least of the quality of saw. Hoe these pic's help in the 81 mystery.

Sooooooooooo................How about shipping that saw east? ;)

That is a nice looking saw, and quite possibly one of the most rare JReds.

I'm wondering if the 81 was a west coast version of the 801.

I wonder if we could JANDG to get some more pictures? ;)

Maybe of the inside and muffler. It sure has some big dawgs on that thing.

I already posted pictures on the other site, to see if anymore information was available.

Here are some more pics. i will get more detailed ones later today. Looks to be a odd ball & the west coast idea seems to fit best...? I have got some research ahead of me.

Sure is a good looking rig, looks like some kind of after-market pull handle and rope.Lucky guy!!!!!!!!!!!

(Whole lotta drooling going on I'll bet.)

Yes, The owner had the larger start handle installed to aid him in starting, just to hard for him anymore,& I can see why, I am 43 & it even kicks my A.. somewhat , lots of compression it seems. Tommorrow will chip up some wood, couldn't get to it today as gravel delivery has me beat. Hope someone else finds a 81 in the future so they can complete there J-Red collections.

Great catch!!!!

I suspect that was the prototype for the 801 - probably very few exist!

Great find JANDG

Wow intrigue on AS, it don't get no better than that. I totally agree that the decal has not been moved or altered. I know little about any saw, say nothing about this. My 4 jreds are very ordinary, but could you possibly contact the company and get some information from them. This seems to be a very rare bird indeed. Thanks for sharing and posting, very interesting. JR

Apparently, no-one did, except Mike Acres and the OP of this thread........:givebeer:

I would have been one of those voices saying there was no such thing also. That model does not appear on Tiltons' RPM chart which is supposed to show the max RPM's for every saw model they sold.

One possibility is that Tilton never did import this model for their territory, but it was brought in by whoever was handling the west coast at that time. Similar to the 2147 being available in Canada, but it wasn't in the US.

Here's a bump for the Jonny fans,in case you missed it.Very interesting stuff.

My attempt at a joke Jerry.

Maybe an item of interest on the 'bay right now.Item # 270415086900

Take a peek.

He's pretty proud of that saw if the "Buy it Now" price is any indication.

Are the 820s that rare?

Currently I am more interested in this 81 that has transcended from myth to reality.

I wonder how many offers he has received?

I am very excited to see another JRed out there. Over on Magnus' site, even Motorsag is surprised! He also thinks that it was an 801 with all the bells and whistles(large dawgs, full wrap, spark arrest muffler), like taplinhill mentioned.

Yes, to hear the experts surprised about this 81 does make it something of an aberration - which in this case is a good thing.

Sure would be nice to be able to examine that saw to see where it differs from its apparent successor, the 801.

More rare than the 111/111s.

Certainly an interesting thread!

Great find, JANDG!
