Can any of you tell me the proper way to remove the oil pump gear from the crankshaft of a Jonsered 920? Is threaded or press fit?

Dave

I cant garantee you 100 %,but the gear is probably press fitted.Usually Jonsered are presse fitted ,at least in the last ten years. And there is a puller to remove it that screw directly on the gear. But you can probably use a small puller to"lift" the gear.

Pressed on and there is a removal tool.

You can sometimes remove them with a very small puller but it can be tough getting the jaws to grip the back of the gear without damaging it

I have a couple of small gear pullers with adapters that I use on some odd pitches on various oiler gears and I made a puller adapter out of two washers for that use which someone borrowed and never returned I will post some pics when I make up a new adapter.

I attempted to make a puller yesterday but had a tough time getting anything heavy behind the gear. I though about splitting a washer and may have to try that route. The gear isn't completely gone but is worn pretty badly after having the seal go and sucking in a bunch of fine saw dust while milling.
